Does Satine really believe what she’s saying? In regards to the Duke being unable to hurt her? This is a man Mike has been wary of since day one. Not only because he’s the primary reason the agent arrived to the Moulin Rouge in the beginning. No. It’s the vibe he gives off. The fact he’s basically looking to buy Satine. What kind of love is that? It’s not. Let’s also not forget his past relationships did not turn out very well in the end. Hell, one ended with a dead body! The Duke is a dangerous man. That much is clear. To Mike, anyway.
❝There has to be something else you can do for the Moulin Rouge that doesn’t involve being with the Duke. You don’t love him.❞ Unfortunately Mike doesn’t have the necessary funds to keep the Moulin Rouge afloat. Satine knew this from the start. He’s not rich by any means. Maybe he could pull some strings with the Bureau, but he highly doubts it.
Her question. It gives Mike hope. It’s almost impossible to wipe the now apparent smile from off his lips. Without even thinking, he reaches over to grab one of her hands. As of late it became second nature to do so. ❝We’d find a way.❞ In case it wasn’t clear already, Mike is making this up as he goes along. ❝We’d leave Vegas. We’d leave the state if we have to.❞ Even the country if it came down to it. ❝Be honest with yourself, Satine. Can you see yourself being happy with him? Do you want to stay here for the rest of your life? You deserve to be happy.❞ This isn’t just about Mike. He wants her to be happy. Is that so much to ask?
