ㅤThe war in Heaven always weighed heavily on Michael's mind, something that he could never escape from. Those moments turned over in his head repeatedly, were run back through to figure out what he did wrong, obsessing about it until he could very nearly make himself sick with the thoughts of it. Over the centuries he figured out how to cope, burying himself in work and pretending that everything was normal. And that did work, for a good while, until he had a conversation with Him.
ㅤThe conversation that he had with God had risen some—incredibly concerning thoughts to his mind. Thoughts that he never really wanted to have slip into his mind. Because those thoughts lead to doubts and doubts lead to mistakes. And yet, despite knowing that, the conversation he had with God still wouldn't leave his head. Still kept sneaking thoughts into his head, dragging down deeper worries and things he never wanted to have to think about. Things he shouldn't. That he knows he shouldn't.
ㅤSo the thoughts lingered, they festered and sunk further into his mind, until the doubts began to form.
ㅤDoubts in angels are a curious thing. They don't instantly cause one to fall, no. A fallen angel was one either forcefully removed from Heaven like Lucifer, or one that had lost all faith. When the seeds of doubt begin to form in an angel like Michael? It causes cracks. Not immediately, not out of nowhere, because the doubts have to fester and cause the faith to start to break. It was a process that those who needed to know were aware of, one that the Archangels didn't tell regular angels to not cause fear. But they know the signs.
ㅤMichael knew the moment that he had crossed the line a bit to far too. Where thoughts dragged a bit further and crossed that path from thoughts to distrust in their Father. It was the moment where he wondered, for just to long, if God knew what Samael was going to do before he did it. If he had knowingly allowed Michael to harm his brother. Because what other answer was there? What other choice could there have been after the conversation they had? He had to know.
ㅤAnd that was when the crack appeared.
ㅤMichael hadn't slept in weeks, had been pushing himself along, hyper focusing on every single little thing since that single conversation. He couldn't get his head to stop, couldn't get things to slow down, just kept replaying that day and that conversation over in his head. He couldn't stop it, which only made it worse and that was when the first crack appeared.
ㅤHe was on his way to his office, it was incredibly early in the morning and a single thought or perhaps realization entered his head. Just a single fleeting one that Michael's very soul knew was more true than apparently he realized.
ㅤHe was forced to hurt Lucifer.
ㅤA crack appearing in a halo was incredibly painful. Like a bone shattering, organs being ripped out, eyes being plucked from ones skull. It was one of the worst pains that one could imagine. Agony hit him with the single crack along the right side of his halo along with the sharp sound almost like glass shattering. Michael's hands flew to his head, gripping his hair tightly as he wobbled just slightly to the side.
ㅤRight over the edge of the clouds.
ㅤMichael was fairly certain that he had passed out. Not even realizing that he had actually tumbled over the edge of his own home. Somewhere between the fall and tumbling through the air, he did manage to wake up. Head still throbbing, his halo flickering almost like a broken light, Michael quickly realized that he was tumbling through the sky. A dark sky, a place unfitting of somewhere like Heaven, but he was falling still nonetheless. The first thought was that he needed to catch himself but the moment he attempted to pull his wings out—he realized he couldn't. In fact, even trying to use his own magic set another electric shock of pain through his entire body.
ㅤRealizing there was no way for him to catch himself, Michael instead simply tried to shield his head. He managed to barely get his arms around his head before his body connected right with the ground. The Earth shook, the ground cracked with his connection to it and more pain radiated right up through Michael's body.
