Morrow Valentine’s Party

This semester, our wonderful freshman class house reps and h-secs (event planners) planned a fantastic party for Valentine’s day. Two bands, one from Amherst and one from UMass, came to our house and performed their entire sets for us. The party had a really good turn out and as always, we got to take some really cute photos :)

P.S. Sorry I forgot to post about it, but we had a party for Winter Weekend last semester.

QUAD RIOT!!!! If you don't know, this is when everyone in the quad has a huge water fight and then runs to the president's house to demand mountain day (our free no school day of the year)!!

Today was Mountain Day so we were woken up by the Wilson House bell and screaming. My house (Morrow) had apple cider donuts (the best) and apple cider in the living room before we piled into two cars (a tight squeeze) and headed over to an apple orchard. It was a lot of fun and we took a lot of pictures!!!

Every year Smithies get one perfect Fall day of no classes!

Highlights of the Day:

-Mountain Day Checker Twitter finally saying it’s Mountain Day!

-Apple Cider and Apple Cider Donuts in front of the President’s House

-Wilson Bell ringing

-McDonalds, Apple Cider Donuts, and Coffee in Morrow Living Room

-Going to Park Hill Orchard with Morrow House

-Apple Pie from all the apples we picked

-No classes!

Doing Laundry at Smith

I am doing my laundry today and so I thought I might as well make a post about it because I know that when I was a prospie it was something I was worried about.

All laundry machines at Smith (as far as I am aware) are located in the basement, which, to be honest, can be kind of creepy. These basements also tend to be where unsanctioned parties happen and where people like to play around with spray paint.

The number of machines can vary house to house, but in Morrow, we have 4 washer machines and 4 dryer machines. For a normal washer or dryer cycle, it is about $1.35-$1.50, which you can pay using quarters or your onecard.

As you may have seen in the pictures above, we have drying racks available for use for free in our house. Also, a cool feature we have is LaundryView, which allows you to see which machines are in use and for how long.

So there you have it, laundry at Smith. Some quick tips/hints to close out: 

1) Put all of your socks into one laundry bag so you don’t lose any.

2) Hang dry your jeans and sweaters. This prevents them from shrinking and erases the need to iron your jeans.

3) You don’t really need to iron or steam most of your clothes at all if you hand iron them while they are hot.

4) One bucket of Tide to Go Pods will probably last you all year and saves a lot of hassle. Also, don’t forget dryer sheets and dryer balls.

5) Choose your method of carrying laundry wisely. A short plastic basket is nice because it will fit under your bed but may require you to do laundry more often. A tall plastic basket (what I have) required you to do laundry less often but takes up more space and is harder to carry down the stairs. A laundry backpack is nice for carrying but can be difficult to place if you don’t want it out in the open.
