Nightwings tend to mimic the sky they were born under. That being said most nightwings born on the volcano are a mix of red or gray and tend to be completely starless or even 'foggy' due to the constant smoke.

That being said, nightwings who venture outside of the volcano tend to start develop silver scales, though they'd almost never come to have as many as a nightwing who had been born under a regular night sky.
