Eternity
And how they unlived happily ever after.
I’ve always enjoyed it when a game leaves its ending open enough to keep the story alive long after the credits roll. This piece is set after the events of Dragon Age: Veilguard, in my own little “what comes next” space.
In my version of the story, Agatha lives out her full mortal life with Emmrich and eventually pursues lichdom. Not to escape death, but to remain closer to it, keeping watch over her beloved home, the Grand Necropolis. And to make the ending a little more sappy (there’s enough loss in real life, so let me have this), she also gets to spend eternity with the man she loves.
And finally, Agatha has all the time in the world for her corpse beetle collection. 🪲

In my series of retro-esque Dragon Age travel posters, here's one for Nevarra / Necropolis!
One of my favourite locations in the game (not least because of a certain dashing necromancer gentleman), the scale and atmosphere of this place is so incredible!
I… does the Necropolis just serve as Nevarra’s orphanage and babysitting services? Because from what I understand both Emmrich, Rook, Cassandra, and Cassandra’s brother all grew up there, and Dorian was also being taught there when he was like… 10. How many children are just running around the Necropolis? How childproofed is the Necropolis? Who is taking care of all these children? Where do they house them? Why does every orphan from Nevarra somehow end up in the Necropolis? Did Rook grow up with Cassandra? I have so many questions about the fact that there is literally no orphan from Nevarra who didn’t grow up in the Necropolis so far.
‘You can't spell necromancer without romance’. Thanks Bioware for releasing the concept art of the companions! I finally figured out what Emmrich's boots look like, haha! (Study from "The Bouquet" by J.C. Leyendecker)
