Ncuti Gatwa in his stylish BAFTA Awards wear by Rawandan designer Moshions. From Brittish Vogue:
Gatwa, who plays Eric in the horny high-school Netflix drama, has been thinking about his red-carpet look: his take on a classic tuxedo designed by Rwandan brand Moshions. “I knew I wanted to champion an unknown designer and an African designer, so Moshions was the perfect fit,” Gatwa tells British Vogue prior to the (virtual) awards ceremony. “It was important for me to rep Rwanda and to bring a great Black designer to the fore.”
His other criteria? “I told my stylist [Felicity Kay] that I needed to look regal – naturally, it’s my first BAFTAs!” he laughs. The black Moshions suit is accented with a blue and orange sash, with intricate geometric beading emblematic of Rwandan artisanship. As designer Turahirwa explains, “Moshions designs outfits that represent both Ncuti’s suave personality and his Rwandan roots. The meticulous bead motifs were applied by hand, and reference the geometric beadwork from the ’30s. The colourful drape was traditionally worn by royals at grand ceremonies – like Ncuti at the BAFTAs.”
