#throwback to #MossCow a piece I made. I’m gonna revisit the series if I can figure out how to get moss in the desert. #lol #artlife #artist #artistsoninstagram #contemporaryart #sculpture #art #artcollector #moscow #fakenews #truth #science #moss (at The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation of New Mexico) https://www.instagram.com/p/BuPhwVMBdGZ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1brh34lme26uq
It was a Rock Lobster!
Definition: 1) it's not quite a rock, it's not quite a lobster; it's a Rock Lobster 2) a creature often found at parties and under docks at the beach
I have some amazing friends. Back in twelfth grade, we made a group chat which was promptly named “Mosscow (plus some assorted emojis).” Why? Because of the topiary cow that sat outside the Chik-fil-a (a recent phenomenon in the D.C. area) that we would get lunch from occasionally. Today, the group got back together. We were going to finally all go to the Chik-fil-a together to take a photo, but, as Keely (the vegan) pointed out, it’s Sunday. So we went to the pool. Highlights of the pool included: when the kids left the pool, never becoming the monkey in the middle, the Hamilton soundtrack, nice weather, good company, and Goldfish (the snack, not the fish).
I had to rush home after this because I was going to a B-52s concert. I wouldn’t say that the B-52s are an obsolete band, but time has definitely made them more obscure. The real reason why I went to this concert was because I owe my existence to them. How is that possible? My parents met at an Earth Day concert where the B-52s performed in April of 1990. My sister was even named after one of their songs, Planet Claire (even if my mother vehemently denies this).
The band that played prior to the B-52s was The Romantics. Their claim to fame was the song What I Like About You (which they did play). The B-52s played all of their biggest hits, opening with Cosmic Thing and closing with Rock Lobster (how could they end with a different song?). The crowd was really into the music. I saw a lot of interesting dance moves; the phrase that comes to mind to describe the eclectic movement is: “weebles wobble, but they don’t fall down.” Even my parents seemed to be overtaken by the music (evidence from tonight suggests I did not get any of my dancing abilities from them).
Here are some B-52s lyrics from one of my favorite songs, Roam, that I thought will sum up my summer:
Roam if you want to, roam around the world Roam if you want to, without wings without wheels Roam if you want to, roam around the world Roam if you want to, without anything but the love we feel
