Hmmmmmmm
Imagine an AU/Timeline where Owl still has his old team and he doesn’t go to 141 until wayyy later. But he does still end up in the sins’ task force,
His old team is fine
Never went through the torture
Never got captured.
But Owl still did, in this timeline’s past… and since he was a private at the time, the enemy deemed that he had no information of value to give. But instead of just killing him off, they sold him to an illegal lab of sorts.
Imagine his old team mourning, thinking he was dead. Only to pverhear a conversation during a mission, find out that there was a chance he was still alive…. Then searching for nearly a year, tracking down leads, threatening them for information.
But by the time they finally DO land a mission regarding the lab, it’s because of a distress signal…. And the lab is wrecked
And everyone’s dead, so many dead- some half eaten.
And then they find him
But it isn’t Owl anymore, not fully.
Body mutated and mutilated beyond recognition besides a faint humanoid shape to the point they thought it was a monster at first.
Tried to sutvive it scared out of their wits while exploring the lab, always on edge, shooting on sight.
Til someone finds the data center and finds out it’s Owl
Their Private
The former youngest of the team— Owl.
Then read the details on the experimentation, the illegal ‘super soldier’ serum. The amount of change they planned for it to do- the torture, the lack of any humane treatment. And suddenly, the bodies littering the halls and the rooms look way more like monsters than what’s been stlking them through the facility
I want Owl to be so much in pain that he doesn’t even realize they’re not some of the facility’s guards throughout the whole ordeal. I want him biting off someone’s arm before even REALIZING
Before the team chases after him as he runs away in guilt, them cornering him to try to get him calmer before actual sedation
I want the higher ups suggesting to just put him down and the team being against it because ‘he’s still in there’ or some shite. Monster, maybe. Cannibal, definitely. And the only saving grace was they were put on the sins task force to ‘train the new super soldier’
Owl’s body to be so fucking messed up that he can’t even talk anymore or is actually the fucking definition of a cryptid that canon owl keeps getting accused of being.
Keeps his tem, but goes an entirely different route on his character development. One where he practically loses his identity
i'm really loving the name buffy.
Was reading tv tropes because that's what I do when I'm bored and Kotoko is.... Just REALLY tragic hero coded. Let's get into it.
"The truly tragic kind of suffering is the kind produced and defiantly insisted upon by the hero himself so that, instead of making him better, it makes him worse and when he dies he is not reconciled to the law but defiant, that is, damned. Lear is not a tragic hero, Othello is." - W. H. Auden
Kotoko sets out to do something heroic (Saving people, avenging people who cannot avenge themselves, that sort of thing), but makes herself suffer more by doing so to the point that she falls apart and the goal deteriorates. "Instead of making [her] better, it makes [her] worse".
The tragic hero is a longstanding literary concept, a character with a Fatal Flaw (like Pride, for example) who is doomed to fail in search of a Tragic Dream despite their best efforts and good intentions.
Mhm, yeah, uh, a character who wants good but ultimately fails to achieve it due to having some sort of flaw? A weakness one might say? Kotoko genuinely wants good, but due to simply having flaws and, from her perspective, weaknesses, she cannot achieve what she wants to or twists her goal in some way.
A Tragic Hero can work as a protagonist or an antagonist. As an antagonist, their goals are opposed to the protagonist's, but the audience still feels sympathetic towards them.
We ssee Kotoko as the "protagonist" via her own MVs, but we also see her as the "antagonist" to other characters. Shidou, for example, wants to save people in order to preserve his own purpose and Kotoko wants to deliver justice in order to preserve her own purpose and... I have yet another post to probably make at some point in the future about Shidou and Kotoko parallels. But that's besides the point. Anyways to Shidou Kotoko is the antagonist and is even mentioned in Triage ("To extract that fang, now") and to Kotoko she is the protagonist and a hero saving the weak.
Tragic Hero protagonists usually die, but that depends somewhat on the tastes of each era (they always die in Shakespeare, but ancient protagonists would often suffer a Fate Worse than Death and/or be left to wallow in their pain instead).
Not much to say about this except I believe in the everyone/some people are dead and if it's true this applies. Also, with whatever happens to Kotoko in T3, we could possibly consider this a "left to wallow in their pain" type of deal.
Aristotle only says that seeing a prosperous person fall is a good source of pathos, and that it's more pathetic to see a not-entirely-bad person suffer due to a mistake than to see wholly good people suffer for reasons beyond their control.
Doee this count as "Kotoko is the weak she looks down upon"? She is not pure and is flawed and fell to temptation via her own vengeance and/or a drawing towards violence depending on what you believe about her. She is weak, and she is not a good person suffering for reasons she cannot control; she's a complicated, messy person suffering for her mistakes.
[spoilers for Moon Knight episode 5]
Marc and Steven are BOTH dead, just at opposite ends of the spectrum. Meaning that if one is definitely coming back somehow (Marc), the other is just as able to get back to the living. Mr Knight isn’t just some character that disappears. He’s the later character development of moon knight in the comics. We’ve yet to see Mr Knight really do his thing.
I just really hope that Jake gets his ass in gear and saves this situation before his soul is destroyed in Duat.
i have sat down to snack on some triscuits and i have a premonition that i will be eating the entire box over the next couple hours
