Just finished rereading tkm, and I realized something: Andrew never admitted there was something between him and Neil, not once since that first kiss on the rooftop. By the epilogue, so much has changed and so many stuff had happened but Andrew still didn't acknowledge anything, even on their spring break vacation when he'd just realized what Neil meant to him, when he'd just gotten him back when he thought he never would again. So why would this

happen?

Imo, the reason why he kinda acknowledges it but doesn't deny anything to the point where it makes Neil feel like it's a start, is that they've just won the final battle. Neil's past and his father are out of the way, Dr*ke is dead and Aaron's case will be dealt with later, and Riko can't do anything anymore. They have won, there is no more fight to be fought. Andrew doesn't know, at this point that Riko is dead, but he allows himself this small, silent gesture of giving ground, of saying wordlessly that no I don't actually literally mean it when I say "there is no this". Things are looking up, promises have been kept and fulfilled, and he's thinking 'I can have this.'
