Ce qui m’intéresse — mon moteur —, c’est la notion d’échec. C’est le principe même de l’écriture : tu fais une page et tu retravailles ; si tu retravailles c’est que tu as d’abord échoué. Mais tu ne peux pas penser atteindre la perfection. Le langage est trop poreux, trop fracturé. Je pense à cette phrase de Beckett que je ressasse — au point de lasser certains peut-être : « Échouer. Échouer encore. Échouer mieux. » Pour moi, c’est ce qui définit la littérature. On sait qu’on échoue à déjouer les lieux communs qu’on entend chaque jour dans le langage quotidien. Mais il faut en avoir conscience et travailler l’échec, que ce soit en prose ou en poésie. On ne peut pas désirer la perfection ; il faut que ça reste, comment dire… sale. Genet écrit une langue sublime, glorieuse, mais c’est une langue sale, frottée, raclée, en raison de son vécu notamment, c’est de la littérature de rastaquouère, de racleur de cuir. Il faut se méfier de la tentation de faire une langue trop belle, tout comme une langue trop réelle. D’une manière ou d’une autre, écrire relèvera toujours de l’échec — à chacun la charge de forger le sien.
