Philautia

I realized I never shared this on Tumblr. I put it out a couple weeks ago for the February challenge on the Writer's Sanctuary server. We were challenged to write 500+ words based on one of the Greek words that get translated into English as "love."

In a fit of diabolicalness, I chose philautia, or self-love.

A glimpse into the unsettling, icky relationship of Emilie Agreste and her pre-teen son Adrien.

Please note that this story is meant to make you feel gross, even though nothing incestuous happens. I just really like this take on Emilie, that she's a boundary-less, failed actress, trophy wife recluse whose husband is always gone. And Adrien is a thing she made, a male clone of her, that is slowly killing her (and might be the last thing she makes), and who is a stand-in for everything she wants but lacks from Gabriel (minus the eros!).
