I completely forgot to check in on Saturday with my week late update but I'd just like to say 1) Kenma calling anyone other than Kuroo his 'friend' melts my little heart, and 2) Fukunaga is now my favourite background / side character. wtf. I want an entire episode devoted to just him. Fukunaga defense squad. (side note, why did he call Kenma "Salonpas". what does it mean. is he calling him refreshing? a soothing balm? is he just being enigmatic and indecipherable? whatever it is, I love him)

Ah, hiii!! I seriously love you checking in every week lol :).

Yesss i love Kenma and Kuroo’s friendship, and then these two episodes emphasizing all of the Nekoma second years relationships on top of that is oooo, so good. I love how Kenma’s annoyance at Taketora’s insistence on using guts actually does help motivate Kenma and make him try harder in a round-about way and how they come to mutually respect each other

And then YEAH Fukunaga is just the cherry on top!! This little mini arc totally made me fall in love with him too, he’s so fuckin funny. And also reliable as a player?? I love every scene he’s in and now I always look out for him in the background n stuff bc his expressions are great too lol.

OkAy, bc of translation/interpretation stuff and I don’t speak any Japanese, I’m not positive and absolutely could be wrong, but my interpretation of Fukunaga’s humor is that it isn’t supposed to make perfect sense lol. Like I think he goes for puns that rhyme and sound funny rather than necessarily being double entendres like how we normally think of puns. I think he says “salonpas” bc it rhymes with “nice toss” and bc they’re in the gym and it smells like air salonpas, and putting them together is just his brand of semi-nonsensical humor, lmao. Like, when he throws water on Kenma and Tora in the previous episode, he rhymes what he says in Japanese with “Dostoevsky” which has nothing to do with anything else going on lol, which is why Tora is confused and Kenma just laughs at the absurdity. (the eng subs translated that line to something about mr. freeze bc the translation doesn’t make sense w/o the rhyme. personally, i wish they left it the same bc i honestly think it isn’t really supposed to make sense and that’s why it’s funny but *shrugs*). So yes, I go with enigmatic and indecipherable lolll, and I agree, I love him so much for it :)

week-late update heyooo! I know you're probably busy yelling about whatever ep 21 was but I just finished ep 20 and YOU WERE RIGHT. YOU WERE SO RIGHT. I LOVE KITA WITH ALL OF MY HEART. HE WON ME OVER INSTANTLY. THIS IS A MAN WHOSE LOVE LANGUAGE IS ACTS OF SERVICE AND IT SHOWS!!! gosh I'm SO envious of ppl who just show up and put in the work day after day, I've never been that consistent in my LIFE. Yesss Kita <3333 and omgg 👀 I didn’t even think about his love language, but you are so right, definitely acts of service!! When he gives that little care package to Atsumu after kicking him out of practice for being sick??? Ahhh

I feel you 100% about being jealous of his commitment lmaoo, I’m the same way. It’s one of the reasons I love his character so much, his “you do it right, and you do it every day” line is such a good thing for me to remember and think about whenever I have to do something I don’t wanna do lmao. Just like finding joy in doing something just because it’s the right thing can be so cathartic?? Kita gets a 100/10 from me too, there’s legit nothing not to love about him imo.

Tbhh I lso love Daishou being the exposition fairy. I honestly really like listening to the rules of volleyball and how it impacts the plot, AND it meant we got those cute moments with Mika listening along loll. And yess I feel like Tanaka is low-key Tsukki’s hype man sometimes when it comes to the insults, it’s always something along the lines of “damn man you probably shouldn’t say that... but nice one!!”

Agree about Suna underestimating Tsukki lol. Like yeah, Tsukki isn’t intimidating in the same way other blockers, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t coming for you. My boy plays the slow long game. He’s always thinking and I loooove that.

HINATA WITH THE GUNS!! I had been waiting for that to be adapted lmaooo, it’s just such a funny image, while also being a really accurate metaphor loll.

It was a really great episode, felt very “classic” hq!! to me with the structure of the first half being flashbacks and second half the application of the flashbacks. Really love that they took their time and showed us everything with Kita, and I teared up a bit when he got his jersey ahhh.

👀..... i did lmao. my base idea right now is to just kinda have it be from both their perspectives (tbh thinking mostly tsukki rn, there’s only like one for sure yamaguchi pov chapter as i see it rn) around the time of the bj/adlers match with them thinking back on their friendship/relationship over the years and how each other are different. but it would probably be like 25% “present” time and 75% “flashbacks” with scenes from middle school through college and those would be more slice of life-y. at least as i currently envision it lol

it’s very far from being anything right now tho lol, so it’ll be a looooong time before i actually start posting chapters.
