This is Zuli. She is a Cecropia moth still emerging from her cocoon. I brushed some gold wax onto her cocoon. Her glass case is sealed with an antique ornate brass fruit exquisitely painted with flowers. My friend @saturniidae_queen who raises moths, gifted me two cocoons and Zuli came from one. Check out her page on ig! This little emerging moth has an interesting back story as to why I preserved her this way. So if you're interested you can ask me at the San Diego Comic Con next week, booth 1633. It's too hard to explain on here. Pixie Warrior. (Avail.) Battle Imp is its companion piece (see previous post). This a Pixie Warrior atop its faithful riding moth. Riding moths are considered part of each pixie’s family and proudly wears the family jewel upon its head which will match the jewel on the pixie’s helmet. In this case it is a stunning opal. The Pixie Warrior bravely wields its pneuma wand, a weapon against evil consisting of a sharp dagger on one end with an integrity crystal on the other. This majestic green crystal can shoot positive energy into a psyche. If there’s still some goodness within the soul of the pixie’s opponent, the positive energy can give it enough strength to grow and overcome the bad energy. The Pixie Warrior wears a sacred amulet on its back that rechargers the integrity crystal. This amulet has the ability to absorb pure positive energy when blessed. Each amulet is ancient, so its power comes from being blessed by generations of pixies. If this magic cannot turn the opponent to the good side then the pixie will have to use the dagger end. This pixie warrior is on its way to fight a battle Imp who is about to enter their territory. The pixie fields is a place full of sunlight shining down to make its crystal hills sparkle, emerald colored wheat glow and golden flowers bright. This is the companion piece to Battle Imp. Materials: animal bones, atlas moth, peacock feathers, porcupine quill, 23k gold, emerald, opal, citrine, aragonite, iItalian blown glass, dried flowers, antique brass base. Created January 2018. Here’s the final post about my Butterfly and Moth Automaton Music Box. This one focuses on the moth. The cercopia moth or robin moth, is the largest moth in North America. This specimen was provided to my by the client. Since there were no repair issues (unlike the butterfly) I’ll explain a little more about the process of making it fly. First I took a photo with the exact ratio (see 2nd slide). I cut it out, separating the wings and the body (3rd slide). I put a piece of tape to reconnect the pieces (4th slide). I used the paper moth as a guid to build the flying apparatus. Once I’ve tested the mechanics to make sure everything runs smoothly, I then added the real moth and adorned it with brass filigree and a rhodilte gemstone (1st slide).
