I shot this awesome ex-BTCC RS500 at the Donington Historic Festival last year. Despite being older than most of it’s competitors in the Supercar Touring Trophy, the extra power allowed in the late ‘80s Group A class made it pretty competitive. Bonus points for the gold centre BBS splitrims!
Sadly I missed this year’s AvD Oldtimer GP, but here’s a sweet RSR I shot there last year. Wide-body? Check. Fat wheels? Check. Whale-tail? Check. Super-seventies two-tone paint? Check. Yep, it’s definitely a bona-fide ‘ring monster.
Driving to Le Mans from Munich sounds like quite a detour, when you live in London at least. This was no ordinary road-trip though, I would be picking up this ‘hellrot’ RSQ3 at München Flughafen for a Crank and Piston story. The planned route would take us southwest through Austria and Lichtenstein before bearing west to Lucerne, but when you've already gone 1600km out of your way, what’s another few hours detour to check out the San Bernardino pass?

After shooting the press images for the Rp1, I shot this quick set for Top Gear Magazine’s first drive feature on the car. Top Gear motoring editor Ollie Marriage was impressed by the car - perhaps inspired by the colour he described it as bananas fast, and questioned whether anything wearing a prancing horse logo - including the LaFerrari - would keep up with its initial acceleration. After all, the Rp1 will hit 60 in under three seconds and 100(mph) in just over 6!
Usually when I’m considering an Auto Focus post, it’s a single car that is piquing my interest...but in this case, the pretty 356A of Steve Wright and Ian Clark is only part of the story. What really grabbed my attention at the Donington Historic was the pair of split-screen campers that complete this crew, one as a tow vehicle and the other, I’m guessing, as team transport and hospitality. These guys aren’t just racing in style, they’re arriving in style too!
For this latest installment of Ferrari Friday, we have the awesome 512M from 1970 that I shot at Silverstone Classic last summer. The ‘M’ stands for ‘modificata‘, since the bodywork was changed from the earlier ‘S’ designated cars that started the 1970 season. A rule change for 1972 that limited engine size to 3l meant that Ferrari didn’t develop this car for 1971, ending the era of 5.0 V12s. What a sound it made!
Next up in FROM THE HIP, is this pristine C10 Skyline. Ok, so this one is kind of cheating since it was parked at Tsukuba circuit, at the Idlers Games Sprint. But I think it’s allowed as it wasn’t competing in the event... ;)
