Ever since I built the initial prototype of my answer to the question “How can I better track and remember my rides”, I’ve dutifully uploaded all my tracks to my account on miles-by-motorcycle.com. The way I have things organized, I can search for just my tracks over a given area, not to mention each ride has it’s own entry with who went and what bikes they were riding. Pondering “where to go riding tomorrow” I thought I’d look where I’ve been and see if there are any interesting gaps in my travels. I may have done a bit of riding in the last four years. 😳 While what’s up on the site right now is just a clunky proof of concept prototype, I am nearing completion (Really, I mean it this time!) of a near production quality release of my ride planner and map viewer which I hope will finally be in a form that anyone with average social media skills will be able to successfully use. My hope is that it will represent a more compelling motorcycle travel specific alternative to Basecamp. Close. So close. But once I finish this I still have the major push to turn it into an app with which I hope to use to track and document my rides with much more richness mot to mention being able to coordinate rides and meetup points with others. My hope is that maybe someday I’ll get this into a state that others might like to try to plan, document, and share their rides with it. That’s really what it is about for me. I just love seeing other riders travel stories and Instagram, Facebook, et al just don’t let me do it in the way I would like. Dammit, if you show me some place cool I’m a gonna wanna click on it and slam it on my map of “places to go check out”. On Facebook I can’t do that, but on miles-by-motorcycle.com I can. It’s been a very tall order for a solo developer to build what is in essence a combination of Facebook and Google Maps and often I have found my efforts lacking, but I am a bit hopeful now. This has been such an unbelievable long hard slog through endless setbacks. But I am close and can’t wait to start using the nee software live. I think it’s going to change how and where I ride for the better. 🤞🤞🤞 #motomaps #mapping #mapbox #touring #sporttouring https://www.instagram.com/p/CEs4OOEH_xJ/?igshid=1m7l6bife3t9c
