G.I. Joe A Real American Hero 3 was published with a cover date of September 1982. Cobra Commander allowed the Joes to take a Cobra base and even sacrificed some of his soldiers to make the victory seem real. As planned, the Joes took a robot they found back to the Pit. While Hawk and Scarlett posed as Chaplain's Assistants for a Chaplain tea, down below in the Pit, the robot rebuilt itself and activated the blast doors. Flash, Snake-Eyes, and Stalker managed to get access to weapons but had to be careful. As Flash explained, "Our first priority is getting out. Any of the heavier weapons in here could easily knock this door down! But the blast would probably kill us! Totally unacceptable! At full power the laser rifle would do the trick but it would eat up too much oxygen too fast! We'd suffocate before the door was burnt through! Equally unacceptable." Clutch, Steeler, and Breaker made it to the heavy weapons like the HAL but found them next to worthless as the ammo for them were 6 floors down in the armory. The most they could do was push them down the shaft at the robot to try to crush it. The Joes ended up using things like cologne lit by lighters to catch it on fire and silver paint and tin foil to confuse the robot's sensors to trick into falling down a hydraulic lift well. Even when they managed to break the robot, it released transmitters that were making their way to the surface to alert Cobra Commander to the location of the Pit. It became a question if the Joes could destroy all the transmitters before they could send a signal to the Cobra helicopters that were beginning to run out of fuel waiting. The issue also had a pin-up. ("The Trojan Gambit"G.I. Joe A Real American Hero 3, Marvel Comic Event)
