Soho Saturday @wunstearoom - this small Chinese tearoom and bar with a few tables near the entrance and a larger cozier basement space with a bustling bar, more tables, neon lights, smoky cocktails and cool music. • They have a concise menu of small sharing plates and two larger clay pot rice dishes. • We started with the salt and pepper squid sesame chili, fried chicken kung pao butter, wok greens fried garlic and fermented bean. All three had wok hei (charred from the wok) and intense flavors from the different ingredients. Simple yet delicious. • We then had the Iberico char siu with spiced sugar skin (the best version I’ve ever had is at #Mott32 and this one comes in second). • Next up was the hand-dived scallop, green garlic and glass noodles - tender sweet scallop topped with a tangle of hot garlicky glass noodles which might be the best simple Asian dish I’ve had all year. We were still a bit hungry after we cleared all the plates, so we ordered another salt and pepper calamari which ended our meal. • They only had one dessert: fried milk tea which we didn’t feel like having, so we brisk walked home through bustling Soho and Sevendials in the 3C windy weather (which actually feels like -1C), stopped by for a quick pasteis de nata @santanata.uk - and finally headed home. When I was studying #interiordesign few years back then my teacher said we should pay a visit to #mott32 and see what they do with their award winning designs.
