I wanted to see what she would look like in my style if you dont mind- Motti by @mothiepixie
🖊🖊🖊🖊 because i'm greedy. ~writerlina
oh oh oh! thank you! be greedy!
1. Midnight paints. she paints the places that used to exist, on the other side of the End of The Map, and she paints the places that she used to go with her wife when the summer air was sweet and mild and the sun shined down on them; and the castle wonders how she comes up with such strange and unusual things!
she won’t forget it. the rest of this land might have forgotten Twill, but Midnight will die before she forgets where she came from.
_-_-_
2. Locke has hot chocolate at the house, and then he has his Special Hot Chocolate, meant for special occasions, like when it’s so dark outside and Blue can’t sleep, hands shaking from nightmares that he won’t talk about, and Locke knows it’s about Kee and the resetting time loops but he can’t actually say anything.
so he makes special hot chocolate with little marshmallows in it and they sit on the couch together listening to soft music and pretending things are okay.
-_-_-
3. Red doesn’t have anywhere near as big of a sweet tooth as Bolte does, but if you give him something bready, he will love you forever. biscuits, rolls, cinnamon buns, doughnuts! anything bread is instantly a favorite of his
and if sometimes Bolte manages to get a few extra pieces of hard tack and leaves them on the dining table as he leaves, instead of in his Inventory, well, that’s not something either of them talk about.
_-_-_
4. Motti’s wardrobe is almost totally made up out of clothing that she’s stolen from other people so pretty much none of it fits. it makes her look awkward and slouchy under her lab coat, which also isn’t hers, and also doesn’t fit, and sometimes when it’s late at night Mottie tries to piece things together.
because these people are supposed to be her family, right, but Blue’s sweatshirts are always the most comfortable, and when she’s trying to look nice she wears one of the vests that she’s stolen from Locke, and that makes her feel more at home than anything else.
I'd love to have a 🖊 for Motti and Bolte! ^u^
ah! thank you! i love this, thank you!
_-_-_-_
Motti is tired all the time. she’s got the bad habit of staying up way, way too late to do research. it’s just that it’s late by the time she finishes doing work at the Royal Labs, you know? so she never gets to start working on her own thing until even later than that and! then she gets caught up in it! next thing Motti knows, she’s got twenty minutes to get to work, and hasn’t slept a wink!
_-_-_-_
that scar Bolte has on his eye is actually from Captain. when he was vying for a promotion to General, part of his test was a fight against her, no holding back allowed. he nearly lost his eye, but it’s also one of the things that he’s most proud of. and besides, Red says that scar looks good on him.
🖊 🖊 🖊!!
thank you!!!!
1. Ginia was a paladin in the Delta War, and now lives in the Capitol, where she runs a little flower shop and spends her days out in the garden. you had best believe that her cooking is jam packed with Healing Intent, and packs one Hell of a punch.
she ends up being the Royal Gardner for Queen Midnight, and isn’t overly thrilled with the job. she’s had enough politics for one life time, thank you very much, and she would like to go back home, thank you very much!
_-_-_
2. Motti just wants to do her job, okay? she came over with the rest of the Butterfly People to research the Code of the World. that’s it. all this stuff going on with Kama, with Midnight - she didn’t sign up for any of that. and that would be okay, right? if she was just able to keep her head down and do her job?
but then she makes friends with Blue, ugh! and all of a sudden she’s got her people and her job, and then she’s got Blue, and they both land on opposite sides of the playing field. suddenly Motti’s got to choose and she doesn’t want too. she just wants her boring life, surrounded by code. why’s that so hard to get?
-_-_-
3. Flame doesn’t make promises lightly. the last time he did, he promised to always fight by Polynya’s side, and it’s what got them both through the Delta War. not whole, maybe, but certainly alive. and now there’s Locke, here, a good friend of his, someone with potential. and another promise.
balancing these promises is hard alright, especially when they are two very conflicting things. but if he can keep them both, he will.
i’m having a hard time writing up a genuine post about Motti so here have a rambling written list of her general aesthetic
satin fabric stretched too thin, cold dark nights clutching thermos flasks of hot coffee, circuit boards and printouts, ones and zeroes, the comforting click clack of fingertips on keys, the gentle flutter of wings that shouldn’t exist, dry humor and too many jokes about powering something on and then back off again, falling asleep on your lab partner’s shoulder during another late night, dreaming about brightly colored lines running over a screen, the smell of whiteboard markers, waystones in the form of a necklace, lab coats that never fit quite right, she’s gone too soft now, too soft, made too many friends and started to forget.
nervous fumbling whenever it’s time to make a presentation, equations and calculations written out in cursive, sugar water downed by the pitcher, honey slick fingers and sticky, unkempt feathering around her neck, golden tears and blue blood, a mystery solving a mystery, laughing so hard that she snorts at three in the morning over something not funny at all, no understanding of sarcasm and a desperation to learn everything there is about the world.
a messy bun and fractal eyes, never wearing her own clothes, the tang of chemicals drifting out from someone else’s lab and an irate do you have to smoke in here, trilling in excitement, low burbling chirps of concern, the ever present barely there smell of sugar, secrets carved into green text and a longing to hold a star in your hand.
I absolutely love Motti!! How come she's working with Blue? I thought he was trying to fix the glitches and the Butterfly people were trying to corrupt them further (or am I just confused?) Also, I love the magic wings!! They sound soooooo pretty!! What is a waystone?
Thank you!!!! I adore Motti! She’s my tired little workerbee, and entirely too smart for someone like me to be writing for! Oops!
Blue is very, very smart. He was working as a scientistbefore the Butterfly People showed up, albeit only for a very, very briefamount of time. When they sort of took over the labs, Blue and a few otherselect scientists were allowed to stay and continue their work.
It very quickly became apparent that Blue was exactly the kind of intelligent neededfor the project. His amicable personality helped decide that as well, becauseit meant he could get along with most anyone he was partnered with. Like Motti!
She and Blue are lab partners. They’re working on trying todecipher the code together, under Kapu’s watchful eye!
And, yes, Blue is trying to find a solution to the glitches. He’s hoping it’s buried in the Code of the World. He doesn’t realize that theButterfly People are specifically looking to harvest knowledge gained from thisresearch and use it for their own purposes. Blue assumes they’re just doingwhat scientists do best – poke around places most people are smart enough tostay away from, and attempting to look smart while they do it.
By the time Blue realizes that the code information he’sdiscovering can be used for ulterior purposes, well, it’s a little too late tofix that. And as for Motti…you know, bonds forged through battle aren’t theonly strong ones. There’s something to be said about spending the night curledup on the lab floor with someone, sharing notes and exhaustion fueledconversations. It’s hard to remember what you’re really looking for when you’vebecome such good friends with someone that’s searching for something else.
And thank you for the wing compliment! I love butterfly andmoth wings! One day, I hope to be able to draw them in a way that will do Mottiand the other Butterfly People justice!
Okay, so, waystones!
There are several ways to travel in Fara.
The first, of course, is by foot. This is the most common!
The second is by the Fast Travel Carriage System, which isrun by the Collector. This is an expensive and often unsettling experience!
The third most common way to travel is through theWaystations! These are strange devices set up all through out Fara, by anunknown source. They hark back to a time long before Fara had a name, beforeFara had a Queen. They serve as teleportation devices of sorts.
Waystations only activate when you have a waystone with you. They can transport you to several set locations through out Fara.Unfortunately, each location is in an extremely inconvenient spot. For example, the waystation in the Captiol sits directly inside of a fountain – meaning whenyou step out of it, you have no choice but to literally walk through thefountain. They also glitch up a lot, taking items from your Inventory.
Waystones themselves are very expensive. Pairing that withthe other oddities of a waystation, and it’s not hard to see why they aren’tused often!
The exception, it would seem, is with the Butterfly People. They almost exclusively use the waystation to travel from place to place. Infact, they attempt to avoid interacting with the Collector at all costs, andare generally opposed to walkingacross all of Fara just to get somewhere.
Waystones are a solid, circular pendant. They appear to becarved from river rock, smooth and polished. Each waystone has a symbol carvedinto it; the symbols appear to have no meaning. When a way-carver is askedabout them, it’s generally met with a shrug and a that’s what it said to make.
(side note – way-carver’s are the characters who createwaystones, of which there are only a handful. Supposedly, they are taught theskill in their dreams)
Motti wears her waystone as a necklace!
nnnnnn i’ll make a moodboard for her later when i have more time and also am not using a borrowed computer, but i wanted to talk about Motti some since she’s a key player in Chapter Two of Groudhog Day!
Motti is a butterfly person, specifically based off of the stylings of a satin moth. she’s a scientist that specializes in coding, and has been Blue’s partner for several long years - time loop glitch not withstanding.
unlike most of the workers in the lab, she genuinely considers Blue a friend. this is largely due to their many late hours spent crashed in the same little office, trading notes and ideas with each other, optimistic for things that most dare not dream of, let alone speak of.
Motti tries hard to come off as serious, but she’s mostly just a tired and somewhat nerdy girl, who gets too nervous during presentations to get her point across, wears ill fitting lab coats, and has the white wings of a satin moth. these wings aren’t physically connected to her, but float behind her, crafted purely by magic. they can appear and disappear at her will, as is the case with all Butterfly People.
*she loves the night sky and has a private, silly little dream of one day holding a star in her hands
*writes in very neat cursive
*has a vaguely nasal voice and can be extremely dry in her sense of humor
*wears her hair up in a messy bun
*nothing that she wears actually belongs to her, Motti has borrowed (ie - stolen) clothes from all of her coworkers and that is solely what her wardrobe is based off of
*wears her waystone as a necklace but doesn’t accessorize outside of that
*knows Blue on an intimate level from all their late nights and exhaustion fueled long weekends together. they’re best friends.
*the best coder of all the Butterfly People
*sarcasm generally flies right over her head, please don’t use it on her
*just don’t be mean to her in generally. you wouldn’t guess it, but she’s pretty sensitive
*there is coffee running through her veins at this point
*she has a big ruff of soft white feathers around her neck and fluffy antennae
*any time she’s not working on codes, her fingers are sticky from honey discs
*when she laughs really hard, she starts to snort
*knows what her real job is, she just doesn’t want to do it anymore
*faintly afraid of Kapu
*keeps a pillow wedged under her desk at work
*sleeps less than she should
You've heard some quirky facts about my science girl, now tell me some about yours! From what I know she sounds awesome and I would absolutely adore learning some fun, silly things about her (or anything at all, really, go wild)!
this took way longer than i meant for it too!!! i’m sorry!!!! here’s me, going hog wild with my science girl, Motti!
*literally can’t use a coffee pot. she is forever breaking it or putting it together wrong, and just generally making all kinds of mistakes in regards to it. on the rare occasion she can get it to work, the coffee comes out riddled with grinds and either extremely bitter, or super weak.
*she absolutely cannot do presentations, especially not to her boss, Kapu. Motti instantly becomes tongue tied and trips all over herself, and her antennae wilt, and she can’t stop playing with her hands and it’s awful.
*loves to make jokes about turn it off, now back on in regards to every problem. coffee too hot? did you try turning it off and back on? oh, you can’t get that can of soup opened? easy. turn it off, then back on. Kapu’s riding us about getting a new update on the code? maybe someone should turn her off and then back on.
*sounds like Velma from the live action scooby doo movie
*sometimes finds Locke overbearingly optimistic, and very, very loud. she likes her quiet, and also to likes to take the time to appreciate when the entire world is about to go to Hell in a hand basket, thanks
*if Blue puts salt in her sugar water one more time, Motti is going to use his glasses cord and strangle him
*there’s honey smears all over her shared office because Motti can’t remember to wipe off her hands after eating, and she basically only eats things caked in sugar or coated/filled with honey
*not that you would ever get to touch it, but her wings feel like satin and they’re just ver soft and ver fuzzy
*has no tag lines but if she did it would probably be something stupid like science girl motti or code specialist motti or double agent mott oh wait that last one is actually plot important oops
*snorts when she laughs
*runs on too little sleep, all the time. she and Blue are forever pulling double shifts and staying in the lab for three or four days at a time. she can’t count how often they’ve fallen asleep on each other
*if you come into her office with a cigarette lit, she will forcibly remove you. those reek and she has a very sensitive sense of smell!
*the most social of all the Butterfly People, which is saying something because she’s not social at all. in fact, Blue is the only person that can tolerate working with her, which is why she’s paired up with him and not another Butterfly Person
*she doesn’t care if it offends you, she will tell you her thoughts on the matter anyway
*so tired and done with all of this. why can’t she just do her research in peace???
