In the family Takako grew up in, as a female that confounded number on your wrist is what your entire life was catered around. Because of the amount of money and status that her family had, her mother literally had nothing better to do than to try and search for her daughter’s soul mates. At first she would snoop around and look at the timers of the males in the city, but eventually her daughters went off, one carrying on the female Fujishima tradition of becoming a coordinator and the other…well, running off and becoming a trainer. Arisu’s timer ran like normal, but Takako’s like with everything else in her life (according to her mother) read weird characters and didn’t seem to work.
As the daughters were away, the mother did nothing but fret about how the status of the girls’ timers were. When the girls were older and Arisu’s dependable time began to wind down, and to celebrate the occasion, the mother got together with the other ladies of the ritzier part of Ecruteak and convinced them to move their fundraising ball up and that the theme should be a masquerade, masks required. She wanted everything to be perfect for Arisu’s big night. Obviously all three Fujishima children had come back home for the occasion, Takako wanting to be supportive while Tatsuya…not so much. The festivity was going well, literally everyone in Ecruteak City was invited, and just about everyone showed up. There was no way their eldest could miss her soulmate, everyone who was anyone was here and there were tons of eligible bachelors who would be more than a perfect suitor for the eldest girl. Everyone else be seen having a marvelous time dancing, or socializing. Tatsuya was networking, while Arisu spoke to everyone who walked through the doors, her mother and father no too far behind her. As for the youngest? The small girl could now be seen fiddling in the corner of the ball. She was dressed as girly as anyone would probably ever see her, not that that mattered. At her mother’s insistence, the small girl wore a mask that concealed her identity, so even if anyone did see the girl, they wouldn’t have recognized her. Quietly, the ravenette stood there pulling at her gloves. She hated wearing them. Just for a moment, the small girl pulled off her glove and looked at her wrist. The ball was a horrid reminder of how the girl’s timer was broken and how she might never- the girl stopped in mid thought, jumping slightly where she stood. Wait…her timer was working?! Takako shook her head and stared. 00:00:02 Takako gulped, wait so that would mean…In a matter of mere minutes, she would meet her “hearts duet” (as her sister liked to put it). The ravenette began to fret, no no maybe it was wrong, this was Arisu’s night to find her soulmate. The small girl needed to find Tatsuya to try and get an explanation about why this was happening, or what it meant. The fastest way to get to her brother, who could smugly be seen chatting with some woman, was directly through the crowd of people ballroom dancing. She could now be seen trying to weave herself through the crowd. As she got toward the middle, due to not being used to the heels she was wearing, her ankle gave out and she was about to trip, but was caught by someone. The girl flushed for a moment and the room was spinning, wait, what was that noise? She finally looked up at the stranger and when they made eye contact, she flushed. After straightening out, she looked at her wrist and then at him. He chuckled, smiling with his eyes behind his mask and bowed toward the girl. He held his wrist out, both to show that his was going off. “May I have this dance?” A sweet smile came to the girl’s face, as she placed her ungloved hand in his. Who knew that she’d find her soulmate at the exact same party that had been intended for her sister?
Luck was a tricky mistress for one Matsuba Suzumaru—or,Morty, as he preferred to be called. The blond would be sent into life threatening situations thanks to her, yet then be given her good graces to survive. One such instance had done more than nearly kill the boy though; upon his close brush with death, his timer ceased working. Laughing it off the boy said it didn’t matter anyways, it was just a silly little clock.
Still, upon hearing there would be a party for the search of a soulmate for a local girl, the seer couldn’t help but go in hopes he’d find another with a broken timer. Maybe it hopeless, but the inner romantic Morty did his best to deny got the better of him. Besides, everyone was invited, right? The chances of there being someone he had yet to meet in the city with his role being that of the gym leader was unlikely to say the least, yet he still found himself being hopeful with each event and each new city that this would be it.
Tonight was that night.
If it wasn’t for the hindrance of masks and a broken timer, that is. He could hardly tell who was familiar and who was a stranger, looking into a sea of hidden faces and strange clothing. Even Morty himself was dressed far differently from what was his usual comfort, having to reintroduce himself to the very trainers he’d faced only earlier that week. He felt jittery, hands often going to tug at his wrist as purple eyes scanned his surroundings. Maybe he just needed a drink—something to distract himself. The seer looked to his wrist in a weak bout of hope, nearly choking.
00:00:01
Sure he was seeing things, Morty walked forward as his eyes remained on the timer. A sound—a yelp?—pulled his thoughts away as his arms reached out on instinct. The woman was small—nearly hilariously so in comparison to the lanky man—as a strange noise filled the air. Did he just…
Was this it?
Standing her straight, the seer watched as her wrist was lifted into view;00:00:00. A small laugh escaped as he gave a bow and held his own wrist into view. It was only right to ask her to dance, was it not? The smile behind his mask nearly hurt, taking her hand in his as his heart throbbed painfully in his chest.
“Oh—whereare my manners? Sorry; my name is Suzumaru Matsuba…I go by Morty, however. Though maybe you already know who I am? I’m the gym leader.” The seer would be lying if he said that he wasn’t surprised it took so long for the two to meet finally, but the girl’s small stature might have added to her ability to not have been noticed.
Fate certainly liked to be funny, didn’t she? Another chuckle escaped as he once more thought of the difference. Still, he curious as to just who his illusive soulmate was—if she was from the city, he would have seen her at some point wouldn’t he? “So, do you have any connection to the ‘lucky girl’ or are you simply one of the many random guests?”
