Moving Update - 9/17/19

Moved into my new apartment. Everything went smoothly and the pets absolutely LOVE the new place!!

I'm beyond exhausted but I have the rest of the day to clean up, get some food and unpack a little.

Finished packing mid-day yesterday and went into work to see a good friend/coworker who's transferring back to the East Coast. I hope I'll see him again soon!

Came home and slept on the floor. Woke up at 7AM and started bringing down everything at 8AM. I brought down 80% of the stuff I could carry when the movers showed up an hour later. I paid $250 to hire 2 professional movers and a truck for 2 hours. Any time over would mean additional $$$$ so I tried to be really efficient.

I was 100% packed up and ready to go before they arrived.

I saved additional time by bringing down a lot of my things myself before they showed up. In hindsight, I should have started bringing stuff down at 7/7:30AM instead of 8AM to save even more time/$$$.

I asked early on if I could ride in the truck with them to my new place. They couldn't so I left quickly to take the bus ($10.50 day pass) instead of scrambling to get a $30 uber in traffic. I arrived at my new place just a few minutes before the movers 😎 Had I waited till the truck was loaded to ask, the movers would have had to wait an hour for me to show up.

I hit the 2 hour mark when we arrived at my new place so I decided to have the movers bring up only the things I physically couldn't carry myself or things on the heavier side.

The movers unloaded the truck and brought about half of my things up to the apartment. They only charged me for an extra 30 mins ($62) and left.

I spent an hour - 90 mins carrying the rest of my belongings upstairs to my new apartment.

Didnt really savor the moment. Unboxed my pets food and water bowls & the litter box. Chugged a glass of tap water and took off for the bus stop to go back to my old city.

Went to my old place...roommate was gone which was GREAT. Dropped my old keys on the bathroom counter. Put my cat in her carrier, leashed & muzzled my dog, picked up my bag with my pet mouse & tarantula in their travel cages. Called an Uber. We arrived at the new apartment.

The pets are so happy with the new place! They seemed to understand that this is where we'll be living from now on.

After they got settled, I decided to call and cancel my furniture order. I'll buy new furniture after I get a second vanilla job.

Move update -- Removal costs are a bit ouch!

So it’s been a while since I’ve made a move update post. So far, everything is going faaaaairly well, everything that needs to be in storage is now in storage an now I’m just waiting on a confirmation date for everything to go ahead.

And this is where the ouch comes in. I got a quote from the removals company that works with the storage company I went with and the cost is... way way more than I have saved. We’re looking at around £400 for the removals.

I really really hate to ask for help again but there is no way I have the means to get that money relatively quickly. I currently have £100 saved towards it (there would have been more but occasionally circumstances get so tight that I do have to borrow from it, albeit not too much. I’ve been good to keep it around this mark).

As a by the by I am doing commissions still, though they’ll probably be quick and cheap commissions. Writing commissions are still at £3 per 500 words (2000 words max) and I will be offering doodle commissions for £6.

Moving Update - 9/16/19

Woke up early and moved my bed set out, lamps and my mouse's tank into the spare room. My dog and cat are starting to freak out.

I did a quick vacuum and was ready to go when the carpet cleaning company showed up.

He did a great job and I was expecting for the carpet to not be 100% perfect given how badly stained it was. He got it to 95% perfect! Now I have to wait 8 hours for it to dry. Cost: $120 + $10 tip

I can't believe how many boxes I have 🙃

About 30 small boxes, 9 plastic totes, 4 trash bags and then some furniture. My bed frame isn't collapsing properly so hopefully I won't have to toss it.

I emptied out my bathroom earlier except for 1 cabinet underneath the sink. After that I just need to scrub the bathroom.

Tomorrow morning the movers will arrive. Since I'm being charged by time, I plan to carry 90% of my stuff downstairs before they get here. Also, I'm going to have them put everything in the living room when they unload the truck. I can sort everything from there myself.

I've already signed the lease so I just need to pick up the keys. Hopefully the movers will let me ride in the truck with them down to my new place. I'll take the bus back to my old city, pick up my pets and then take an Uber to the new apartment ($20).

I'll break for lunch and buy 2 cheap comforter sets & pillows.

I plan to try to unpack as much as physically possible because I have furniture arriving on Thursday.

T-42 Days ‘til Move in

Completed June 15, 2023

This week I emailed a Brazilian tile company in desperation. We’ve not heard anything from our tiles people in so long. Every day counts because we need them to pack the container, ship it and then when it gets here we have to clear it. Then we have to lay the tiles. There are only six weeks left and I might be having a proper meltdown.

I NEED to move, for my physical and emotional health. I hate it here and I’m EXHAUSTED. I’m so tired of trying to survive here.

I did make some progress this week though. Ma and I did a spot of decluttering today that I think our future selves will thank us for. We’ve also made plans to go window shopping for furniture and appliances this week, God willing.

Progress is progress, I guess.

T-49 Days ‘til Move In

So we got disappointing news this week. There’s been a delay with the tile production for at least two weeks. That is more than a little frustrating, but I’m insisting that July 27th is still Move In Day. It’s in my Reminder List on my to-do list spreadsheet and I’m still speaking and planning with that day in mind. This hold up makes it even more of a miracle in my books.

The other miracle I need is some energy to start cleaning up where we’re at. There’s so much clutter since our last move. I’m sure there are some things still in boxes from 10+ years ago. We need to sort through everything and pack in less than 8 weeks, so I definitely need a lot of energy for that.

Plus, the business restructure goes live and the music camp takes place next month, God willing (a lot happening at once). Jesus will definitely have to put both hands.

In other news, He’s been putting a hand when it comes to some of my anxieties. I’m doing better in terms of germ-related anxiety. I’m so grateful. I could have seen that being a disaster, because it seemed to only be getting worse.

I can’t put my finger on anything I did this week to prep for moving other than visualizing living in my new room. We visited the site today and the stark contrast between no walls to walls everywhere is amazing. The difference between last year this time and now is astounding!

I’m so grateful to God for the resources and this opportunity to move.

I’m trying to adjust to my new life here. I’ve been friends with these people for years, they’re good to me. The anxiety hasn’t went away though. I can’t work at the moment, so I try to make myself useful around the house while they’re gone. Taking up the dishes, tidying up the house, taking care of the cat, etc. i’ve also been trying to make myself as small as possible, not using too much power, staying in my room. I don’t want to be a nuisance, or a burden. Hopefully, I can start going back to school in a month or so. But there are things happening at my old home which I need to attend to as well. You know, the shit I’ve been trying to get away from.

I’m trying to accept things as they come. It isn’t easy. One day I’ll end up dead, just the same as everybody else. There’s no sense in fighting life as it comes to me.
