So I just had a horrible week, not because something horrible happened, but you know when things start to weigh more and more on you and you just want to run away but you can't and it is exhausting to just keep moving on as if nothing happened? Well that sorta week. And today was the roughest day of all. And then we begin to make zapping on tv and they're giving the movie "Into The Wild". I dunno if you've seen it, it's about this kid who leaves home because he can't stand his parents' lifestyle anymore. He travels across the country, living off nature and some people's help. And he wanted to get to Alaska. (omg i just had a huge "Looking For Alaska" flashback because it kind of made a big impression on me too). And when he gets there he realizes he's not as happy as he thought he'd be, and when he decides to leave he's stranded because the river grew, and (SPOILERS) he slowly dies of starvation. God. That movie. The worst thing is, it is based in a true story. The guy did exist and die up there in the wild. He had the guts to just GO AWAY and choose the life he wanted to live. And, according to the movie, he died happy because he was free. And you have no idea how much that kills me. I feel like all I've ever wanted is that, specially after this ridiculously horrible week. Freedom. Finding myself. My blog is named Finding Pepperland because it was my Beatle-sy way of stating what has been and still is the greatest struggle of my life. Finding me. What I want. And how to get there. And even when I have known that the way my life is going is not the way (that is, through career and studying and getting an education) to happiness, I still can't change it. I can't turn away. I can't try something different. I can't leave. I can't go. I can't be free. I am too scared. And in the meantime my life is slipping away, I'm getting old and nothing is changing except the fact I'm hating myself and my life more and more each day.
So, Chris McCandless, if you're up there, if there's a heaven and you're free now, look down on a soul that admires you for your bravery, and enlighten me, please. What do I do? Where do I find the courage? How do you just cut ties with an entire life and a whole idiosyncrasy that has been imparted to you? How do you do, to choose the life you want for yourself, and tell everyone in the face that you're not happy like this? And specially, thank you, for your message. Thanks, Chris.
