My friend and I want to move somewhere...cold. Somewhere that gets a ton of snow and never gets over like 80 degrees in a freak heat wave. I want to be within 2 hours of an ocean or sea, and we can't be totally isolated because there's no way either of us will make enough money to support ourselves without working in town.

And when I say a lot of snow, I'm picturing like 3 feet for 3 or more months of the year, snow piled up outside. And I want it to be Europe, to get away from the US and for travel/cultural access. Looking for somewhere to settle into a new language, a new culture, and snow.

So if anybody knows any really snowy European college towns...let me know

Whew...got a lot done!

So yesterday was depressing because it was my last day at work and I cried a lot, but I got my taxes filed electronically last night and today I rearranged my storage unit. I got my modular desk, my portable AC unit, television and standing fan stored with enough room to fit my mini dryer, bed and possibly even my little dresser. Everything I’ll need to access to load up my car when I go is right by the storage unit door, so it will be fairly easy for me to get on the road quickly once I’ve got everything packed and ready.

I had some doubts that I could accomplish all of this with no help by Sunday, but after the amount of shit I knocked out today alone, I’m feeling more confident. I just hope I have enough to cover gas without breaking my bank until my final paycheck and tax return come in. Storage is paid up for next month, so all I’ll have to worry about bill wise will be my car insurance and phone. Hopefully I’ll get a job and start getting pay coming in before my meager savings get too stressed.

Victor and I set up a ko-fi account, since we’re saving up for a potential move out of our house.  Any and all donations would be super great, and would help us get out of our current place. Our house right now has multiple issues, most of which are in the basement. It leaks even worse than it did before, and the plumbing around the basement drain backs up every few months or so. Every time this happens, it takes at least two days for our leasing agency’s maintenance guys to come over, and then another day for them to get a plumber or roto-router guy out to fix anything. Half of our maintenance requests (most of which have been small ongoing problems) are either ignored, or in the system but nothing comes of it.  Our basement lights have wiring issues, some of which is crappily spliced together, and very dangerous.  In order to turn the lights on for the basement, occasionally it takes hitting the wall near the switch to get it to work.  There are cracks in the concrete around the foundation that make us all nervous, and given the worsening state of the leaks in the basement, I’m hoping it doesn’t rain a lot in the upcoming months. Our neighbors are rude, and the kids next to us have successfully broken the latch on our gate to our fence.  The ones across the street have yelled at us just for parking our cars in front of our house, because apparently when you own four cars, it’s the neighbor across the street who has to make sure you know how to get out of your driveway. We have two cars at our house, total. One of us always has to park on the street because a) there isn’t room in the driveway, or b) we have different work schedules.  Neighbor man knows this, but doesn’t care because his big SUV is “hard” to maneuver around. When we are parked in front of our house, he can’t back it out, even though he has more than enough room to do so.  So as you can imagine, I don’t enjoy living near them.  There are multiple things I could go on about, but in general, it sucks.  Our rental agency isn’t helping, or willing to help. Any complaints we give about the deteriorating basement they just write down and don’t do anything about it. We would like to move out, and we have a potential new place picked out, but it’s going to be a while before we can do that.  We have a couple of booths set up for a few conventions in the upcoming months to sell our crafts, and will be making money through that to move as well.  Any help would be awesome, and greatly appreciated! I want to extend sincere thanks to the Wyndrah follower that donated money to my Paypal account to help my moving finances! It surprised me to get notification and I am deeply grateful for the assistance.

As for the move itself; ideally, I wanted to take the full month to get as many work hours in as possible and save as much of a buffer as I could, but it’s the slow season at the pet resort and my hours have been cut in half. Additionally, the roommate’s wife is constantly badgering him and doesn’t seem to understand that they’re legally required to give me a full month to move out. I’m afraid I’ll come home from work one day to find my things in the yard, my cat MIA and the locks changed.

I think under the circumstances, expedience is best. The sooner I get to New Orleans, the better my chances are of getting a job and getting on payroll before I run out of money and can’t pay for my storage, car or phone. I think I’m going to gun for the first of February to hit the road, vs. the 16th as originally planned. I’m not going to make much more if I stay for two more weeks, as my hours went from almost 40 to 20.

This week is going to be all about the car; getting at least two tires replaced for the road, cleaning out the interior and trunk and organizing what all I can fit in there for the trip. Next week will be focused on putting the rest in storage, leaving behind what I don’t need or care about. My old junk will be my roommate and his cunt wife’s problem when I’m gone; I just want what matters to me.

Mother decided to tell me last night that she's coming this morning to pick up some totes of mine to store for me, while I go about purging myself of the stuff that's dragging me down in preparation for moving later on.

I got up and spent a feverish 46 minutes packing six tote bins for her to pick up when she arrives, in.. about 2 hours. I smell real funky. :D

I hate that Panic @ the CleanMode is so effective.

At least this helped me with my choosing; because of the perception of urgency (which exists), I was able to pack only the stuff that I want FOR SURE to work on in 3 months. Everything else is still here, and I have time to decide on all the little things like the 2,317,590,814 beads I own, and the embroidery flosses and yarns and assorted doodads and such that I've collected "just in case".

Plan: I’m taking my PC to the new place on Monday. It’s been a source of distraction for me from packing and sorting.

Also, because it’s been so hot for DAYS without an AC, I’ve propped my door open to get air and EVERY SINGLE DAY, some rando (or 3) has walked up to my door and practically stepped inside, with their eyeballs leaping to all my belongings. Knowing how many random people in this hood know what I own makes me nervous. [I do have insurance but still; nervous.]

So, all my electronics that I’m keeping that don’t involve food prep are going over asap.

I’ll be moved outta here by the end of July. Leaves me August to clean up the carpet, fill wall holes, etc, IF I even need to. [Depends on whether my landlord is going to be doing reno before he rents it out or not.]
