LION Holiday Specials
Many British comics kept producing Annuals and Holiday Specials long after the comic itself had folded or merged in to another title. Lion had disappeared from the newsagent shelves in 1974, when it merged with Valiant, but the specials kept on coming.
An ad for Lion Holiday Special 1977. This ad appeared in comics dated around 2 June 1977. The cover had originally been used on War Picture Library No. 162, 1962 (Snarl of Battle).
Ad for Lion Holiday Special 1978. This ad appeared in comics dated around 13 May 1978. The cover had previously appeared on the Battle Picture Library Holiday Special in 1976 (and possibly had been used before that).
Ad for Lion Holiday Special 1979. This ad appeared in comics dated around 5 May 1979. The cover, with the soldier bayoneting through the flag, was originally used on War Picture Library No. 48, 1960 (Cold Steel).
Ad for Lion Holiday Special 1980. This would be the final Lion Holiday Special and this ad appeared in comics dated around 28 June 1980. The cover, featuring Robot Archie and The Spider, is sometimes mistakenly credited to both Garry Leach and Mike McMahon but is just by Garry Leach.
