That article you posted was very interesting. I do remember thinking that ‘Wrecking Ball’ was a really good song and she has a good voice. Unfortunately I felt the video overshadowed the song. She is a talented musician and actress. I often wonder if she just needed to take a break for herself after all the years trying to fit an image.

I thought what Mozella said about songwriters holding back their best material for the hottest artist was interesting, and understandable. But the best songs often end up with “budding artists,” sometimes people who might actually know songwriting and can pick out a great song.

In the same podcast, Mozella talks about writing songs that were specifically to be used for commercials. These are songs that are catchy but not heartfelt ballads, but they pay the bills. A lot of top 40 radio is like that.

Wrecking Ball reinvented Miley— and you can see the result on Miley herself, and in the songwriters. One song gave them an opening into the business.
