I don't know if this has been said before but in the first episode of season 2, I hope that the way Mob put together the pieces if Emi's novel made her realise how he understood and read it well, that putting it together was as easy as putting together a jigzaw puzzle he's been playing for years. Sure, he has psychic powers, but they probably flew so beautifully in the air because Mob himself knew exactly where to place them. Or am I delusional

The Most Pointless Mob Psycho 100 S2ep3 Rant Ever
warning: there’s a bit of spoilers here
Hello hello it’s me again, Holy~
So I’ve been binging Mob Psycho 100, because everyone started suddenly talking about it, and being the nosey bitch that I am…. I needed to get to it. So, of course I did. I spent about an hour writing this. I wanted to get this right. Especially since I felt some if the parallels lined up with my personal life experiences. So, it’s time to cut the cake.
practiced making gifs on some of my favorite parts from the mp100 season 2 opening
I rewatched MP100 and Mob/Tenga + Mob/Musashi were my takeaways. Why do I always fall for rarepairs with little to no content?😭😭
so my friend showed me this post that said that the intro to mp100 s2 sounded like the Seinfeld theme so i decided to to combine the questionable vocal isolation i found and the Seinfeld theme. it sounds atrocious
(sorry for bad quality; giphy is very limited when it comes to making gifs and I couldn’t find any other gifs of this scene)
Real quick, I just wanna talk about how much this one motion hits me so hard in the chest. The animators took such pains to animate this one sway of his head, and when you know the cost of animation, any additional motion that is added to a character means something. This sway of Reigen’s head is important.
It almost looks like Reigen is seconds away from throwing up. He’s not, but the emotion is palpable. The sway of the head means that he’s lost control. He’s dizzy with the shock of hearing that Mob knows. I separate this motion into three different stages:
1) Shock.
2) Panic/Overwhelmed
3) Despair.
Stage One: Shock - The first two seconds of the shot, with Reigen opening his eyes and recoiling. Reigen has been metaphorically punched in the face. At least it feels like it. When he asked Mob if he knew Reigen was a fraud, he didn’t expect Mob to say he “knew all along.” I don’t think Reigen even had the time to wonder if he was really that bad of an actor, or if Mob was sharper than Reigen realized. But it’s the beginning of his explosion into:
Stage Two: Panic - When he’s turning over to Mob. Now he’s processing what Mob just said, and the repercussions of it. Mob knowing means that his act is up. He’s become so used to holding onto this facade that the initial panic of it overwhelms him, and it leads into the emotional defeat of:
Stage Three: Despair - The final dip of the head. By accepting that Mob has known (not realizing that Mob is not referring to his fraudulent behavior), Reigen has to accept the consequences thereafter. We can glean from Reigen’s behavior and upbringing that, in that moment, he believes Mob is leaving him, and Mob right now is giving him the reason. If Mob has known that Reigen was a fraud all this time, then, he knows that Reigen has been using him all this time. He knows how horrible of a person he really is. This was the final straw, and what Mob did for him at the press release was just a small mercy. That final dip of the head, the sag of his neck, is him waiting for the bid of “farewell” and “never contact me again.”
In essence, it’s: “He knows. I can’t think. I can’t breathe. I’m going to throw up. Of course, he knows. I deserve this.”
In these four seconds of animation, we understand Reigen more as a character, and exactly how much Mob means to him, and exactly how much he despairs over what he’s done. That final second is him giving up, returning back to that young man who is discouraged time and time by his parents, and he’s ready to go back to that time.
It makes what happens in the next five seconds so much more heartwarming.
