It seems that the (as yet un-merged in main linux kernel) MPTCP is actually enabled in Nexus5 Android phones, and reputedly also in Apple products.
It is a way of spreading a connection over several independent TCP-speaking interfaces in order to improve bandwidth.

MPTCP is an extension to TCP that decouples it from the underlying IP. This is specially important in wireless networks and mobile devices, where multihoming is becoming the norm instead of the exception.
