Multipath TCP (MPTCP) notes
It seems that the (as yet un-merged in main linux kernel) MPTCP is actually enabled in Nexus5 Android phones, and reputedly also in Apple products.
It is a way of spreading a connection over several independent TCP-speaking interfaces in order to improve bandwidth.

A new TCP extension was born earlier this year, Multipath TCP.
It makes sure you can get from A to B using multiple interfaces, and have your networking stack choose whatever path works [best] for your data.
This has nothing to do with NSA, eavesdropping or 'capturing' someones data by 'splitting' it so you can listen on an interface and have ALL the data. It's just a better redundant connection, better than fault-tolerant interface bonding.
