We just lost the battle, but
In case you haven’t heard, GMW has officially been cancelled.
I’m sad we won't know how the show was really meant to be in the end. I’m sad we won’t see the result of what was brewing juuuust underneath the surface of everything. I’m disappointed we won’t get to see Riley grow up a little bit and make the world her own. And yeah, okay, I’m pissed we won’t see the resolution to the Lucas-Maya dynamic and all that entails. But mostly I’m crushed we are saying goodbye to these characters, especially when it feels like the story is far from over.
I’m also kinda mad. I’m trying not to be, because there are SO many things I don’t understand about these decisions. But I feel almost …used? by Disney Channel, if that’s the right word for it. We KNOW they saw our campaigns. They made it clear they heard us. They even sort of encouraged it by posting tbt photos on Instagram, polling us on Radio Disney and on their FB account. And then, boom. It’s done.
Again, there are so many things that go into these decisions that we are not privy to. For all we know, it came down to the wire and a decision was made in the 11th hour, but..it’s still shady. I’m not impressed by what went down in the last few weeks.
It’s hard not to feel defeated by this. It’s hard to feel hopeful when you've just lost something you care about. But if there’s one thing Girl Meets World has taught us, it’s to have hope.
We lost the battle but there’s still a chance to win the war.
Netflix is hearing us, loud and clear, that we want them to pick up GMW. It’s not out of the realm of possibility.
For current Netflix subscribers: officially request the show through the site. If you don’t know how, Google it. It’ll show you exactly what to do. Keep on requesting it. Every day if you have to.
If you don’t have Netflix, write an email to Ted Sarandos, the content manager of Netflix ([email protected]). Contact Netflx on Twitter or FB (though many people have confirmed via Netflix reps that the best way to be heard is by requesting on their site). Please be courteous and respectful; they’ll take us more seriously that way.
We can do this. I’ve seen the power behind this fandom and it blows me away how awesome and passionate everyone is. Let’s do this one last time.
