“Mister Vice President” holy shit
don’t forget folks. vp thick.
“At any rate, we still see these seven-colored pieces of information with a sense of fairy-tale magic to them. Haven’t you ever thought about that, Carol?”
“I think they’re pretty. Does that count?”
There’s a lot of ways to convey a narrative, and not all of them are linear or chronological. What’s important is how they convey the story--usually that DOES mean a chronological sense of continuity, but in a multilayered narrative taking place at different points in history, the story often isn’t that straightforward.
Where do you start? It’s the dilemma you run into when video games in a series jump around in the timeline--Devil May Cry 3 happens before 1, but it builds on the themes and characters introduced in 1. Same with Resident Evil 1-3 and Resident Evil 0; one of these stories happens before the ones that were told before it, but even if it tries to reintroduce everything there’s still an underlying assumption that you already understand the setting and situation, and may in fact utilize plot points and revelations FROM those stories as if you’ve already been caught off-guard by them, ruining the impact if you play the prequel first.
I tend to watch or play things in the order they were released for that very reason. It’s a more coherent narrative that way, and most importantly that’s how the story was originally told. Lots of people have different approaches to this, and it’s not always the same even for me on a case by case basis, but there you go
oh my god he’s still going with this sneering condescension
get out of your mom’s basement once in a while, man, 4chan is bad for you
for fuck’s sake man just say “different characters come at the same story from different perspectives and the same events mean different things to different people”
mister vice president, I want you to know that so far you’ve shown less humanity than the literal mobster who literally just punched a literal homeless man in the face
dude not one singular human being in the entire history of the earth has looked at a rainbow and thought “man there must be one weird-ass fire at the other end of that thing”
