Anon, I've answered this question MANY TIMES in the last 8 years, but seeing that you seem to be a newbie, and I have a few minutes, I will reiterate what I said 8 years ago via insider source, and have continued to say about Cait and Tony.
In 2014, I got connected to a source in Glasgow who knew Tony McGill. The source's brother went to school with Tony and knew his family.
This is what she told me. She said that Cait and Tony met years and years ago, like at least 9 or 10 years before 2014. I don't have exact dates on that, but 2014 is NOT when they first met. They met when Tony rented a room to one of Cait's friends. Cait and Tony hooked up briefly way back then and remained friendly after. Then they RECONNECTED in the spring of 2014 and things turned romantic.
Soooo, when Cait started filming Outlander in 2013, she was single and could have dated Sam if she wanted to. But she did not because, as she has said herself, she doesn't date actors, and as a different source told me, Sam is not her type. Her type is exactly Tony: dark haired, artsy, musicians and music industry types. All her previous boyfriends are the same type as Tony, not Sam. Look up musician, Dave Milone, with whom Cait lived years ago, and you'll see he looks very similar to Tony.
Anyway, my Tony family source told me that by the time December 2014 rolled around, it was "dead serious" between Cait and Tony. The source said that Cait spent Christmas 2014 with Tony and his dad in London. And then Tony went to Ireland with Cait for New Year's 2015 to spend it with her family and friends. We can see in Cait's friend, Donal's video, Cait sitting on Tony's lap, his hands tapping to the beat on her hips, while he smiles adoringly at her 1/1/2015 Ireland. 👇
Tony was living in London at the time and Cait was still living in Los Angeles. They made it work by going back and forth. Eventually, Cait moved to Glasgow and Tony also moved in with her. He would still go back and forth between Glasgow and London for business.
We saw Cait and Tony traveling all over the world on vacation and Tony traveling with Cait, supporting her during work functions. (Tons of picture proof) They've shown to be pretty much inseparable since 2014. 💘
They got engaged in 2018. Got married legally and religiously on August 10, 2019. And had their first son in the summer of 2021.
It truly is a wonderful love story. It's so sad that certain segments of the fandom aka Extreme Shippers can't be happy for Cait and Tony and CONTINUE to spread a false narrative.
