Rereading last year's state of design, I didn't dislike Devoid because it was a marker. I disliked Devoid because color already has an inherent meaning to me and putting a word on a card doesn't change that inherent understanding. A devoid card didn't feel colorless to me, it just felt like whatever color it was cast for. When I played colorless matters cards, I'd internalize them as "Colorless or Devoid" because even with the nice frames, devoid felt separate.
But colorless had a mechanical relevance. Costs red mana and is red are not synonymous.
Lots of mountains aren't actually volcanoes. (and not all volcanoes are mountains) I do personally feel that it feels odd to have humanoid characters only associated with their color by a location or element. Pyromancers are always passionate in magic because that is what the magic requires, but seafarers aren't always going to espouse any blue values.
Not all pyromancers are passionate and seafarers can have blue traits without it being about seeking perfection.
Each color covers a wide variety of different qualities. Being in a color means you hit some of those qualities but not necessarily all and definitely not always the philosophical ideal of the color.
A zombie represents black's fascination with death. A treefolk shows green's connection to nature. A fire elemental is made of fire.
The colors are not one note. They are made up of lots and lots of different elements which means that the things falling under them have a wide range of qualities they can express.
Never buy ground nutmeg, it loses its potency far more quickly than whole nutmeg once opened. (Whole nutmeg will last almost indefinitely) and the whole nutmeg has a more fragrant, full bodied flavor. Grating nutmeg can be a little bit of a pain, but a spice grater is a great addition to any kitchen with a wide variety of uses.
Anyway, I've seen a lot of custom keywords and ability words posted here. Unfortunately, most of them are only attached to a tiny number of cards. Which kind of defeats the purpose of a keyword...the whole idea behind keywording something is that you can use the mechanic again and again.
So I went looking and gathered up all the Tumblr keywords I could find. I figure they'll be more likely to see further use if they're not buried beneath thousands of other posts.
If you want to use one of the mechanics that I created, go for it. If someone else made it, it'd be polite to ask them.
I might eventually sort these, and add proper explanations to them. But right now I can't be bothered.
The sources for these mechanics include abelzumi, damnyoumodoshuffler, affinityforanime, sgt-failure, welcometo--world, magicarasa, mraptronym, pokemagicthecapturing, actualashiok, me, and probably some other people that I'm forgetting.
