So the Little Mermaid live action remake just came out on Disney+. I confess, I usually hate the disney remakes. I didn't even go to the last few because I've been so fed up with them. Didn't have the best attitude going into it. I'd seen a lot of chatter about how washed out everything was, and how the critters lost all their appeal because they were too realistic. But you know what? I'm halfway through the movie, and I'm really, really enjoying it. 1. they are using color well. yes, there are muted scenes, but I just watched the 'under the sea' song bit and my jaw was on the FLOOR. It's gorgeous. The whole movie is honestly worth it for this one song. It feels like a celebration of real ocean creatures and their beauty and diversity. I would not be surprised if that scene alone inspired hundreds of kids to become marine biologists. 2. Disney has gotten batter at making their 'realistic' characters feel animated through movement instead of just facial expression. The Lion King failed pretty strongly at this, all the creatures just moved like drugged lions. But this movie? It's MUCH more fun to see - Sebastian especially. Watching him move in ways that are so crab and yet SO VERY ANIMATED is dang cute! He's a cute lil crab! I like watching him and his lil eyes! Frick! 3. Eric is so much more of a person too. he has a real motivation, backstory, goals that make you root for him. hell, they even gave him a banger of an i-want song! He's practically his own disney princess in this instead of a cut-out nothing of a character. I think everyone has already heard how good the rest of the cast is, Ariel, Ursula, so on. I'm only halfway through, but I can say with full honesty that there was nothing they could have done to make this movie better than what it is. I'm really excited to keep watching, and if you have any fondness or openness in your heart to give it a try, I strongly encourage you to do so. It's just a really delightful watch so far and I'm really happy, honestly, that it's as good as it is. Especially the sea creatures, man. I feel like most live action movies gain nothing by being live action, but THE SEA CREATURES MAN. THEY'RE SO COOL!
whats with one's own brain being like a thing that has to be figured out ?
like "okay, what is going to make you happy? what is bothering you right now? where does this thing you are thinking come from?"
why am i a separate entity from my own thinkbox
I love i love i love slowly growing to adore something not because it is something i inherently like, but because it is something i know my friend likes and so i always send it to them. second hand love of a thing gained from proudly bringing it to my friend like a cat offering a leaf
im gonna post this untagged and if it gets out of hand i will delete it but ive been puzzling over a thing in my mind and i have yet to find a resolution people like to talk about their freedom of expression and desire not to be censored especially when it comes to their sexuality, but like - sometimes it feels like the concept of 'consent' doesnt apply unless it is a physical act.
Which, always bothers me. I personally find explicit images very disturbing and I always have - it is just how I am made. I don't think it's fair to tell me that my discomfort is wrong just because someone else wants to express themselves freely. I feel like if you step back and look at the rhetoric around this idea outside of a queer context its a little easier to understand in a non-attack perspective? if you are in a work situation for example and someone starts showing inappropriate pictures of something, it can qualify as workplace harassment. like there is a legal preset of ' sexual images can and do cause major distress' i came up against this a lot when i was in art school - there was an overall feeling of 'people can do whatever they want and if it bothers you that's your personal problem' but i guess I dont understand why my boundaries dont deserve to be respected and other people's do this is not a problem i struggle with anywhere in the real world, but it IS an issue i smash my head against in the fandom world when people post their explicit stuff to the character-tag that i like and dont put any warnings, or when people make more traditional art with sexual themes and everyone just accepts it because 'it's art' I do use tumblr savior. i do have my community filter set to on. but it feels like i am being told over and over that i'm wrong for the way i am
lotta people joking about certain content being unbanned
gonna vent a second and say as someone who gets REALLY STRESSED AND DISTURBED when i have adult content forced on my eyes against my will, my tumblr experience was Actively Improved when tumblr banned that stuff
like i know everyone loves sexy stuff and whatever but. there is a reason that sending unwanted sexual stuff to people is legally considered harassment i love that now i can scroll and look for art of my favorite characters without having to brace for being triggered every five seconds because people are too lazy to tag. i love actually being able to feel safe on my own dash consent matters.
how would we feel about this as new icon
as opposed to the old self
I love it when i get to see the cascade of
