How’d you get a hold of an Impala? Are they very expensive? Looks awesome, btw! :D
I’ve been looking for one everywhere for over a year and a half, that’s how. I’ve had a freaking team of people helping me look, people that spend a lot of time on the road and in the company of cars and auctions. I’ve been outbid on ebay several times, called I can’t remember how many ads, and I’ve wasted countless gallons of gas and time looking for one. Finding one that is within your means and to your tastes is NOT easy. You’ll have a hard time finding a 4 door HARDTOP, which mine is not. Mine is a 4 door SEDAN (don’t let the “hardtop” description fool you because my top is hard, HARDTOP is just what they call the 4 door that doesn’t have a frame and posts around the glass on the doors). People that fix up a 4 door hardtop to the specs of the show have what is coined as “replicar”s. Mine is what they call a “tribute” car, which basically means it is going to be similar in many ways to Baby on the show, but different in others (my interior is gonna stay turquoise for example, at least for now). I’m not trying to make mine exactly like what’s on the show.
As far as expense goes, it just really depends on what you find, how good the car’s shape is, what you are willing to dish out to fix it up, and what you really want. I personally wanted something in good mechanical shape, with a decent body so I wouldn’t have to put *that* much work into it. And it took me a long ass time to find it and even then I just got lucky IMO. I bid on my car, hit the auction’s reserve, and then messaged the seller with a higher cash price to end the auction early. The seller thought it over for a few days (talked to me and a few other potential buyers), and when no one else bid, he then called me back and we made the deal “off the record” and he closed the auction early. When I went to pick it up, we learned one of his older children threw a party with over 100 people and that a lot of money got stolen from them. He didn’t outright say it, but it’s why I believe he took me up on my cash offer and wanted to sell it so quick (I was very adamant about getting the car and already had my transportation details hashed out to him). Sometimes it’s all about being patient for the opportune moment. ^_^
