❤️ Esce oggi in libreria questa piccola meraviglia. 👉🏻 #mrsengland Londra, 1904. Ruby è una bambinaia diplomata al Norland Institute. Quando l’adorata famiglia per cui lavora le chiede di trasferirsi con loro a Chicago, lei rifiuta e piangendo torna all’istituto. Lì le affidano un’altra famiglia: gli England. È Mr England in persona ad attenderla alla stazione al suo arrivo. È un uomo gioviale, disponibile, disinvolto con i dipendenti. Lui la scorta a casa dove l’attendono quattro bambini: Rebecca, Millie, Saul e il neonato Charles. Ruby si dà subito da fare, si occupa dei bambini, dei loro vestiti, della loro stanza. Che strano però, Mrs England non bada molto ai bambini, li evita. Per tutto ciò che li riguarda deve chiedere a Mr England. 👍🏻 Fin da subito a Ruby è chiaro che c’è qualcosa che non va. Mrs England sembra avere problemi di memoria. Sta sempre in camera sua, da sola. 👍🏻 Ogni personaggio nasconde qualcosa, sono tutti enigmatici, ognuno di loro cela un mistero. 👍🏻 Sono ben presto rimasta avvinghiata alla storia, così scorrevole e affascinante. 👍🏻 Un libro sulla falsa riga di #janeeyre Se avete amato quel classico, amerete anche questo. 👎🏻 Il finale è l’unica nota dolente: é come se Ruby rimanesse ingarbugliata, come se non riuscisse nemmeno ora a liberarsi del suo fardello. 👍🏻 Fatto curioso: Ruby è ispirata a una persona reale che condivide un particolare della sua storia. ❓Potrebbe piacervi questo libro? Doamna England de @staceyhallsauthor este un roman care mi-a plăcut foarte mult și pe care l-am parcurs mereu întrebându-mă ce urmează să se întâmple. Cu o multitudine de elemente gotice și cu un fir narativ plin de mistere și ghicitori, romanul este o fereastră spre inima unei familii bogate, dar ciudate, în care se trezește Ruby, o tânără care poartă o taină pe care trebuie să o ducă cu ea în mormânt. Mrs England was the second book I’ve read by Stacey Halls and I went into it with slight trepidation to be honest, having liked but not loved her first novel, The Familiars. However I was delighted to find myself completely engrossed and thoroughly entertained in the narrative from the very beginning right through to the end. ⁣ ⁣ This is the story of Ruby who secures a post at the home of Charles and Lilian England to look after their three children. As time goes by, Ruby begins to feel uncomfortable with the situation in the home, more specifically with the questionable behaviour of the peculiar Mrs England. Ruby finds out quite soon that she must fight and conquer her own personal demons if she is to have a chance of preventing history repeating itself. ⁣ ⁣ Mrs England is historical fiction at its most fantastic. I was completely immersed in the 1900’s alongside our intriguing female lead with a couple of juicy little mysteries to capture and hold my attention. I did manage to work out a little of what was going on behind the scenes but there were still enough surprises to keep me reading on. ⁣ ⁣ Was everything resolved just how I would like? Perhaps not and without giving too much away, I found the reaction (or lack of reaction, should that be?) to an incident by Ruby quite perplexing.
