Kyle was not deterred by Alex’s mood, he never seemed to be. ‘First day of testing, are you excited?’ Kyle asked as Alex started to follow him, he was going in a slightly different direction Alex had been going.

‘Do I look excited?’ Alex asked, trying to keep the bite from his tone. Kyle grinned at him.

‘You look like you haven’t slept in three days.’ He shrugged. ‘But that’s how you usually look at the start of the season. I think you might be the only driver that gets more rested as the season goes on.’

Alex was going to be the youngest World Champion in Formula One history. He was going to make it happen, or, at least, that was the plan. Leave it up to his new teammate to make his life (and his goal) much more difficult. Who the hell does he even think he is? With his stupid hair and his stupid eyes and that ridiculous smirk. Alex hated him. Well, that's what he kept telling himself at least. or Malex as competing Formula One drivers.

comment: sports! i don’t know a lot about them, but i know i love this fic. this is exactly the kind of enemies-to-friends-to-lovers content we need in this fandom!! the car racing and the championship and the interviews and EVERYTHING is so much fun, and provides such a great backdrop for the progression of their relationship. even though you know they’re gonna get their shit together eventually, it’s so damn satisfying the way everything plays out.

Alex was only half paying attention, maybe twenty five percent. He leaned forward to grab his glass and take another sip of the wine and made a face. It was probably an expensive bottle, but Alex had never been much of a wine drinker, overseas they drank beer or hard liquor, so he’d kind of automatically developed a taste for that.

Plus, wine gave him killer hangovers.

He was feeling a little masochistic, sue him.

Five times Alex thinks he'll be alone for the holidays and he's wrong.

comment: not only is this a wonderful holiday-themed fic, it’s full of friendship and a slow re-connection for our boys. it addresses so many of the relationships in alex’s life, all important and all on their way to being in a better place. warm and fuzzies? check. sweet and hopeful ending? check. on your to-read list? i hope so.

‘So, uh, what are we supposed to do now?’ Michael was sitting cross-legged on the floor next to the Christmas tree.

It was kind of a sad looking one. Not the tree itself, but the decorations. Michael and Alex had realized pretty quickly that neither of them owned any Christmas ornaments or anything like that. They’d bought some string lights and a few ornaments, but they also didn’t want to spend a bucketload of money on something they’d only use once a year. So the tree, about as tall as Michael, was lit up, but only had about eight different ornaments in it.

‘I don’t know.’ Alex shrugged, handing Michael a cup of coffee before sitting down on the chair closest to him. It was Christmas morning and Alex was starting to realize neither of them really knew how to do Christmas.

Michael and Alex realize neither of them know how to do Christmas, but somehow, they still manage to do it right.

comment: ahhh it’ so sweet to see alex and michael making their own christmas traditions for their only little family. another short and unbelievably sweet christmas fic.<3

Michael had seen, met, talked to and danced with many beautiful people over the years, the advantages of being the King’s half-brother, but no one Michael had met could quite compare to Alex Manes. There was just something about him that drew Michael’s eyes to him every few minutes.

In which our author puts the characters in “17th century France, and use everything [they] learned from watching the BBC's Musketeers series on Netflix”.

comment: people, you know i love AUs, and this author has delivered once again. from the brilliant mind that brought you this slope is treacherous, our hockey au, comes a raunch through 17th century france that see max, isobel, michael, and liz (and rosa) as royals, and alex, kyle and maria as members of the guard sworn to protect them. michael and alex start the six-chapter fic in an established relationship that only grows from there. it’s 18k of malex, swords, political intrigue, liz being wonderful, max being stubborn, someone trying to train rosa (clue: it’s alex) and more swords. seriously; sword fighting/training scenes can be so boring but i found myself pouring over these ones, taking in all the details. it’s honestly just so great. my fumbling words can’t do it justice so you should go and read it!!

millie’s long list of malex fics | This Slope is Treacherous by SuchASeeweedBrain

His whole life, Alex has done what his father told him to. All his life, Michael has been the second choice for the people around him. That all changes when they meet. It takes them a little while to figure out what it is exactly that they feel for each other, but when they do, they will not let it go. No matter who tries to break them. .

Alex Manes is a hockey player. That means he’s white (eh, not quite), straight (eh, not at all) and tough (fine, he’ll take that). His dad has made it very clear what he expects from him and Alex is fully planning on doing exactly what his dad told him to, but then he meets Michael Guerin, and those plans fly right out of the window.

comment: sport aus aren’t usually my thing but this one is SO well written. the author writes a truly fantastic alex, the plot is engaging, and you don’t have to know anything about hockey to follow along. the story does deal pretty heavily with themes of domestic abuse so tread carefully if that’s a trigger for you, but the important thing is that alex and michael get that happy ending after all. the fic is finished, all twenty chapters of it, which makes me sad but also totally jazzed to go back and read it all over again. i’ve said it before: we are truly blessed for longfic in this fandom and this is one of those great ones.
