Happy “commit to enroll” day from your local MS0. I’m going to my dream school :)
I’ve been so busy being anxious about getting all the stuff that I need for school that I honestly haven’t even had the time to be excited about finally starting Med school. School starts next week and I still have yet to feel peace about this move and roommate situation. I’m going to flood myself with bible verses about anxiety and pray until that peace comes. I can’t allow myself to remain like this.
Tips from a retired doctor. Sharing here for anyone else who needs it, as well as a reminder to future me.
Just saw your post on getting accepted to Howard Medical School!!! CONGRATULATIONSSSS!!! Question, what masters program did you do and how does/did that relate to your medical school application?
Heyyy,
Thank you for your question. I did the Indiana University MSMS program. It is geared towards disadvantaged students (regardless of race) to increase diversity at IU school of medicine.

This is a decent program in my opinion. Please apply if you can (Application deadline for this year is April 30th, they extended it from March 30th)
The program has strong ties to the School of medicine and the classes are practically the same classes I would take again in my first year of medical school. They program has incredible resources.
You start in June with an MCAT prep course and take the mcat in august before classes start. The classes are great and we have a lot of helped with the classes
The only down side of this program is the mcat cutoff, we think this year it is around 498. it might go to 499/500 next year, but I think getting a 499/500 is very doable. it might go down also, but that is very unlikely.
On their website it says the deadline is march 30th but I spoke the my program director yesterday because a friend of mine is applying and she told me that they extended the deadline to April 30th.
You have to fill out a pre-application first, then they email you and let you know if you are eligible to apply.
Pls message me with any questions, you might have.
Y’all! Y’all! Y’all!
So I’ve been avoiding this particular school because even though I like it, I wouldn’t be able to afford the out of state tuition. But I got a phone call yesterday that I got a recurring $30,000 scholarship that basically sets me at a price for in state tuition. When I found out I screamed and called my best friend and cried. Then I told my family in our group text (lame I know but I love it) then I called my mom and she also screamed. So ahhhh! I’m so happy! I’m so happy! I finally get to leave my state! I’m honestly not even going far (about a 3 hour drive and still not far from my family) but I’m so happy.

so shocked.
was accepted off a waitlist i honestly kind of forgot i was on. turned it down; it wasn’t the right school for me and i’m happier with my current acceptance.
life is funny sometimes.

hit that “commit to enroll”
that’s it, boys. i’m going. i didn’t end up a school i’d dreamed of, but i came out of cycle alive and kicking. i’m excited to learn new things, meet new people, and do new things. i can’t wait to find reasons to love my new school.
onwards.
Being away from home is so weird. Especially at this age where I’m not as outgoing as I used to be. I know I have to make an effort not to isolate myself and make friends otherwise I’m going to feel very lonely.
But I start orientation tomorrow so I need to finish unpacking now lol.
