If everything worked, then the Mystery-Talks Update is finally up. Download link is, as always, in the original post, but also here! I hope everything worked.
I apologize for the delay, I know I promised it sooner but I suddenly got rather sick and then a bunch of stuff happened.
If everything works I will upload another version in which Mystery can actually talk.
A little backstory on that:
He used to talk. Quite a lot, because I assumed he would be capable of it. However, I knew one of my friends thought he couldn’t, so I became a little worried and -through some bad luck- asked the, presumably, only people who thought he couldn’t or chose not to talk. Concerned about the end result, I decided to take his dialogue out. That he can canonically talk is something I didn’t know and removing his dialogue was painful and stressful. Next time I shall trust my intuition on this.
I have started adding it again last night and I think I am mostly done. It’s not the same as before and most of you have probably played it already. However, at least there is a version with him talking, then.
The msa game looks amazing! Do you have any plans to make a version for moblies too?
(Thank you!)
Unfortunately, RPG Maker games are “intended” for Windows only. There’s no official support for mobile devices as far as I know.
I’ve seen some people figure it out for Mac but right now mobile looks to be difficult (especially since controls and stuff like it would have to be adjusted).
I might have another look at it, though and see whether I can find anything online, because I know that there have been attempts.
But for the time being it’s going to remain on Windows, usable on Mac if you have helpful software.
So, I’ve been messing around with the RPG Maker a little bit to find out why there are some bugs and some things may be a bit better by tonight.
- The piggy bank should be less buggy
(kudos to a stupid thinking error of mine for making it bad)
- The silence in the end should be replaced by music
(don’t know what happened there)
- Handwriting in the blue book should be readable
(I thought it was readable)
Additionally, kirbychan234 pointed out in their review (Thank you very much again for writing one!) that the music got repetitive in Level 2, something I did not think about since it never took me long to get through (a stupid mistake). Which is why I’m considering adding something that allows you to switch between 'unlocked’ BGM in Level 2.
I’ll be working on that in a bit and then playtest it later. If there’s anything else you’ve found you think I could or should take another look at, let me know and I’ll do my best (Nothing colossal and game changing, though).
If you’re mid-game and want continue playing with the updated version you can copypaste your save files from the game folder into the new one (same folder as the .exe). Though I cannot guarantee with absolute certainty that it won’t cause some weirdness or other things. The choice is yours.
Okay, I hope this reaches some people. Apparently, there’s a glitch in the MSA Fangame involving an instance where you talk to a Dead Beat, please read below the cut to avoid this because it might kill your progress.
I’m really sorry if this has happened to anyone, it should not and it was something I was rather certain it didn’t. I might see to it and, if so, update the post on it. Until then it’s something easily avoided, at least.
EDIT: FIXED
Alright, this should have fixed the glitch and the Dead Beat vanishes when it should.
Have only made a brief test here due to it being 3am. The glitchless version is in the original download post here.
This is about the Dead Beat that gives you a list. When you’ve brought it back all the items it’ll lead you to the Ballroom Balcony and show you a door. After that it disappears. Well, apparently, it still lurks around in its original position. Don’t talk to it again. If you do it after it has shown you the doors, it will glitch out and the game will freeze, causing your progress to get lost.
Hi there! I just finished up your MSA game and it was fantastic! Would you mind terribly if I posted a review for it on my blog? It'll include pros, cons, praises, critiques, etc. I wanted to ask you first before I posted it though!
Oh, thank you!!
Oh no, go right ahead. I’d be kinda psyched actually! Just please keep in mind that this was a first-time-hobbyist project, if you can? I know there’s no excuses for anything but it is what it is ^^;
Maybe you could tell me when you post it? I’d be happy to read it.
