Part of a Secret Santa art exchange for Final Fantasy XIV’s Starlight Festival, which covers most of December. Sadly, the files for my dragonette corrupted, so I couldn’t use him as a call back.

App for Dr. Mantis Shrimp! @fireflythenightlight (Bio under the cut)

Dr. Mantis Shrimp is a kingdom-renowned astronomer and astrologist who works to study Pyrrhia’s night sky. When Queen Moray was killed, Mantis Shrimp’s parents fled into the rainforest, where they lived for many years before Mantis was hatched, and the dragonet learned astrology from a NightWing academic that lived there. Dr. Mantis Shrimp has only recently returned to the Sea Kingdom, under commission from Permafrost to chart the night sky above the seas.

Before Mantis was an academic, when they were around five years old in the Rain Kingdom, they had trouble fitting in with other SeaWing and RainWing dragonets in their area. They were, essentially, peer-pressured into going on a long-winded underwater swim before their gills were fully developed. As a result, they mangled their gills and, in turn, their vocal cords, which rendered them totally mute. This was also when they started to become more reserved.

Six months before the events of the RP, Dr. Mantis Shrimp was commissioned (or at least, publicly “commissioned”) by King Permafrost to map the night sky above the Sea Kingdom for him. The ship, known as Blizzard’s Bane, was supposed to continue its journey for another half a year, but… something happened.

Apparently, the (mostly IceWing) crew was not happy with having to treat a SeaWing - AND a hybrid - with the respect they normally reserve for their lord. So they knocked poor Dr. Shrimp out, tied them and their ~precious starmaps~ to a log, and threw them over the side. With their lungs damaged, they couldn’t do anything but float around alone.

Until the Tsunami’s Rage picked them up, of course.

Trying Out Vegas

Hm. Not used to this interface at all, but at least it’s a touch intuitive.

I don’t have feelings one way or the other on which is better yet - After Effects or Vegas Pro. But this is also just a hella simple video edit.
