Sabi ng guide namin, from there, kita na rin daw yung pulag at arayat. I think lucky yung mga naghike that time sa pulag kasi may clearing. Kita kasi yung sea of clouds maski dun sa location namin. And kahit kami na- amaze ✨
If you’re new to hiking and just wanted to decide whether or not hiking is for you while making sure that your first experience would be worth it, then try Mt. Ulap.
Having an elevation of 1,846 MASL, you will experience a beginner-level of challenge, but breathtaking scenery that do not require much of a hardship.
Actually, it was the beauty of Marlboro Hills in Sagada that pushed me to try actual hiking. It was January 2019 when I first decided to hike a mountain. I am lucky to climb Mt. Ulap because it gave me the best first impression on hiking.
Jump Off is in Ampucao, Itogon, Benguet. The guide will explain to you the three peaks for the entire climb. First is Ambanao Paoay Peak, a cradle of pine trees and twilight-like scenery. Second is Gungal peak - the famous photo spot for everyone. Third is Mt. Ulap with a height of 1,846 masl.
The trail to Mt. Ulap is quiet easy for me because I have a good sense of balance and I have an active lifestyle. The trail is mostly steep but there’s also lots of flat surface where you can run and walk at ease. It was very difficult physically, as you can imagine, because the trail is mostly steep and very very long until you reach flat surfaces where you can rest. Tho it can be a little challenging and tedious for those who haven’t done much cardio especially during the ascent. Patience is a must since Mt Ulap is a long hike compared to other minor climbs.
Regardless, the climb to Mt. Ulap, is definitely worthwhile because the sight of nature’s beauty is truly rewarding.
Along the hike, the herd of cows will welcome you and see, I wasn’t able to stop myself from being too friendly with them.
The scenery on this part of the climb made me feel like I’m in New Zealand. Tall, slender trees. Almost like a scene from Twilight! Free roaming cattle (new friends of Ratty!)
Tall and, slender trees are also too gorgeous that climbing the mountain alone wasn’t enough. I had to climb this tree as well.
The mountain’s grassland and pine ridges and scenic views of the Cordilleras, 8-hour trek is worth it. I didn’t think I would find such landscapes in the Philippines. From the thick green grass and pine trees to the carved out ridges on the trail, so many things were picture-perfect, and yes, Instagram-worthy!
So, if you’re somebody who’s hesitating if putting up extra physical effort for trekking is gonna be worth it, then Mt. Ulap suits you well. Because I tell you, it is.
Sharing my "sinabi na kasing bawal ganyan" (this is prohibited) pose at Gungal Rock and the spectacular panoramic view of the mountain range.
Mt Ulap Eco-trail is one of the best, friendliest and most organized trail I’ve been to. It’s a good model for other local trails to follow. It has cool pine forest, stunning ridges and healthy vegetation. The trek can take 4-6 hours or more depending on your level of fitness or aim. If you take pictures a lot it can take longer.
These scenic views made us forget about our full packs and the heat of the sun. It’s like you wanna stop and take a photo everywhere you look.
It was definitely a memorable weekend! Thanks again to Rock Jockers & Company for arranging this awesome event. ‘Til next hike! :) ❤
