So I remember adopting a HC about Arvio having chronic pain from a work injury (cuz he said he got injured a lot in the quarries) so obviously I've been letting that rot my brain again SO I've been thinking and once he's finally able to comfortably afford it I can see him getting a mobility aid

My time at Sandrock HCs

(Spoilers for the story just a heads up!)

I think everyone underestimates how scared the builder gets sometimes.

They're brave and jump into action without question. A helping hand is always outstretched even to folks who don’t quite want to take it, to those who slap it away with a snarl like a cornered animal, and to those who take it for granted.

Remember how the trolly line snapped and they fell, to what I’m sure they thought would be, death? Only to miraculously survive and crawl their way out of a swarmed Geegler camp with Justice and Captain.

I’m sure fighting the CEO of Geeglers (Larry) was scary, I’m sure when the battle ended they felt a sense of relief.

But can you imagine the fear they swallowed down when they charged onto the train, trying their damndest to save this town only to fall off of a high speed train.

I wonder if they felt relief seeing the bride collapse under the Geegler and train. I think maybe at night, when they climbed into that dingy and dusty bed in the workshop, they sobbed. They cried and clutched the blankets wishing it was Ma’s quilts that smelt of the breezes and Highwind. Maybe they thanked the light, perhaps they cursed it, or maybe thought nothing of the Light and only about the fact that if they didn’t fall off that train they would have fallen again, and into a chasm with no way out.

I wonder if they hate living so close to the station. Hearing the noises of a trains whistles and wheels squealing against the metal tracks, reminding them of the many train related incidents they’ve had.

Then here comes Mint almost getting ran over by a train. I bet for a second their feet froze mid step, before gritting their teeth and charging Mint off the the tracks.

I think maybe they hate heights.

I think during the night, they get that vertigo of feeling like they’re in the midst of falling and they wake up screaming and sobbing in a puddle of sweat.

I think the mornings they wake up to the trains whistles and whirls of noises result in a yelp, hands clutched over their ears as they try to forget the feelings of the rumbling train. Of falling. I dunno, I just think I suppose!

Hc: Owen used to have a country drawl and accent, but when he started to travel around and do Peach knows what in those years, he learned to hide it for some reason.

Sometimes when he’s real tired and exhausted, or someone gets him real angry that it breaks his kind disposition, etc- his old accent slips out, the ending of words have a little twang to them and some words are slurred (especially if he’s tired).

Romancing Owen gives the builder more opportunities to hear it in a more calm setting.

Some Howlett hcs pretty please? 🥺

Howlett 😭😭💙💜 (and yes, I do have more)

Howlett has an eternal alarm clock for five in the morning. He hates it as well and tries to sleep in, but it’s a struggle

He once had dog with a long scar over where an eye should’ve been- his name was Major (a Caucasian shepherd dog). A tan and dark brown type bigger than the man himself.

Major helped Howlett hunt and defended him no matter what the monster was that they decided to take on

Howlett hates grape jelly, something passed down onto Logan for some reason

He has an allergy to feathers but refuses to admit it- it’s obvious though when his eyes water up and he’s got his bandana tight around his nose and mouth when it comes to rocket roosters (or X or Coco)- those two are minimal, but roosters are his weakness

Howlett roasts those plier imps every time he sees them- they just give him the absolute creeps and he finds it’s easier to make jokes than to let himself think that they were once human and had evolved into that

Thoughts like that horrify him

Howlett is a kind and generous man, but he is also a hell of a haggler

Arvio has found that out the hard way for his overpriced items

The Mysterious Man is a circumstantial case to him however

He tunes out of fireside meetings often when he knows they’re just a weekly one

Because of that, he missed the news that Krystal was pregnant when it was announced

He thought they were cheering for one of Cooper’s yakmels getting pregnant again

Him and Logan have a series of inside jokes that no one can figure out

Haru and Howlett discuss theories on monster evolutions and cross breedings of some like the pensky

Howlett draws the line at those that resemble humans

He had a great dislike for Yan- he just rubs him the wrong way

He always knew Logan was smarter than he let on- he’d seen it enough times in the field and at home

But to hear his teacher tell him firsthand that Logan showed promise and intelligence even if he wasn’t necessarily book smart (mind you- he thought Logan was acting up or a disturbance in class)

He damn near weeped

The quickest way to that man’s heart is to acknowledge Logan and his efforts or capabilities or whatnot

Howlett used to always ruffle up Logan’s hair because it tweaked the kid- even when he was an adult and slightly taller

The last things Howlett touched before he died in order: Logan’s hair, his face, and over his heart.

-what a smart adorable little cookie. I mean, look at his adorable freckles and tired eyes!

-this isn’t his first life. You can just tell by how he views the world and dispels random bits of wisdom that no preteen should be capable of doing.

-he’s a big lover of animals and treats most with kindness if they’re friendly and passive. Those that aren’t and that he can just refer to as monsters or mutants or beasts? He still likes to observe them from a safe distance

-you’d think his favorite monster would be a rockyenaroll or a boxing Jack, but nope. It’s a pensky and he’ll take that secret to his grave.

-fastest little thing you’ll ever witness if you manage to not blink. He’s impossible to catch up to or wrangle and he knows it too. He gives Jasmine a run for her money. Because of it, they always have random little races and make bets on them.

-he’s very loyal to Logan and Haru, especially Logan. How can he not be? They’re his dads! He never expected for there to be more room in his heart and life for another person.

-oh but hey, that builder. Hm.

-even after being such a little shit to them in the beginning, he can’t deny that they still treat him with a certain kindness he’s been missing from someone like them.

-ok ok, so what if he kidnapped expressed adopted another parental unit? What if he’s trying to push them towards Logan? What if he’s secretly planning the wedding between the two and seeking covert help for it? Like, mind your own business pls and thanks

-he’s getting better with his manners but sometimes forgets them in his excitement or in a moment of distraction. But he makes up for it when he has his sudden bursts of recollection like: “can you help me tie this?” And soon after you begin- “dang, I forgot to say please. Can you please help me tie this?” Orrr you give him something and he takes off after maybe shouting “awesome!” Or “you’re the best!”, and that’s fine. He’s a kid. But then he’ll either reappear just as fast (kid is like the Flash, remember) or he’ll stop by your door hours later and like “I forgot to say thank you earlier. Sorry ‘bout that. Thanks for earlier!”

-big big big fan of affection from the adults he trusts the most. As soon as he realizes the builder cares for him and loves him? He doesn’t care how tall or old he is even as time progresses, he’ll go from hugging their hips and pressing his cheek to their waist at a fireside meeting, to hanging off them when he’s as tall as Logan, he’ll hang off them.

-not this boy being a long and threatening shadow and- oh. No. It’s just him draping himself across the builder’s back and complaining about his homework again.

-once he realizes how human Logan is and vulnerable at times, he tries to read the man better and keep him from any pain. Even at a young age. He does whatever he can to prevent Logan from enduring any more hurt than before.

-Qi actually likes him! Everyone including the two themselves are surprised about it. Qi was ready to talk this kid’s ear off as a lesson for knocking on his lab’s doors when Andy suddenly told him he wanted to know his thoughts on space exploration for a paper he was writing. Kid actually nabbed the scientist’s heart and now he’s got someone to obsess over space and the stars with. Qi won’t admit it, but he always has time for Andy even when he’s busy.

-family dinners are a must!!! Everyone’s gotta be there. The builder, Logan, Haru, Nemo, grandma Vivi, Rambo, Jasmine. It makes Andy happy seeing some of his found family together.

-he becomes the town’s errand boy for a few years and he actually enjoys it. It keeps him active, healthy, in shape, and expends the energy that used to drive him up a wall! He doesn’t mind running here and there. But he does believe in breaks! They’re important and he’ll chew a person a new one if they tell him to take his break later.

-please please please let the builder ask Andy to help with some commissions. He’s a smart kid! He knows how to read instructions! Lmao what is this? Swedish IKEA furniture? He’s got an active mind and loves when his hard work and efforts are recognized. Plus, he loves the builder and wants to help them. It’s literally a win in his book.

-Jensen thinks Andy likes trains, but really, Andy is just curious about the mechanics and inner workings of them. He won’t break his heart tho so

-Andy often finds himself lounging on a work table of the builder’s when he’s got a free moment and doesn’t have any responsibilities to get to.

-the builder’s home is a second home for Andy. If allowed to come at any time, any day, he’ll take them up on the offer. Bonus points if Nemo has been adopted by the builder too.

-Andy’s got his own throw blanket in their living room. His own toothbrush if he spends the night. His favorite spot to sit. His own books at the bottom of their book shelf. Even his own preferred dishes and silverware.

-Andy’s got a great intelligence and is made for activity and being tasked with things, but for the life of him, he cannot focus on homework if he doesn’t have the right conditions and hasn’t expelled his energy. The builder has gotten used to unlocking their door to find Andy sitting on the floor with his throw blanket over his shoulders, Nemo in his lap, and the child hunched over the coffee table with homework spread across the surface. This even carries on when he gets older.

-Andy likes to let Logan, Haru and the builder know he needs them, even when he doesn’t. So sometimes he’ll request their help with things he’s capable of doing by himself. Or he’ll take on more challenging tasks and ask them for assistance if he knows they can do it. It’s his wordless gesture that he sees their value and reminds them of their importance in his life.

-Andy demands Haru be made a teacher for math and science. He doesn’t have anything against his current one, but the boy has lived with Haru long enough to know how he works and what he has to offer for Andy’s education.

-the builder is the one Andy goes to when he wants to confide in someone. Logan doesn’t really mind it considering he’s the more apparent father figure in his life and he knows how Andy sees him, but he also knows how hard it is to be emotional at times and the builder is someone both of them can trust to take care of his feelings and insecurities.

-if Logan and the builder are together,

-Logan’s gotta accept the fact Andy really loves affection from his S/O, especially if they’re f!builder because of that missing maternal bond he lacks and they make up for. He’s fine with it, just jealous bc now he’s gotta sit on the opposite end of the couch when the two of them are all the way over there, cuddled and bonding. He’s fine.

-it really feels like a family with both his express adoptive parents under one roof with him and their pet (he’ll riot if it’s not Nemo. Literally.) Nothing makes him happier than having them together

-Andy won’t call Logan or the builder “dad” and “mom”- though, he has slipped before and did so, but that’s a story for another time. But he views them as such and treats them like they are. To strangers, he’ll refer to the two of them as his parents or mother/father. He’ll brag about them too because how many other kids can say their dad was an infamous bandit? Or that their parent saved a dying town? That’s right. No one. He’s literally the coolest kid around.

-lmao but if Andy doesn’t get his way with Logan or the builder, he’ll sassily go “whatever, I’ll just ask my other dad.” Before heading to go see Haru

-it never fails to amuse Andy when Logan tries to help his builder in his free time with their commissions only to end up breaking a part they needed because of his brute strength or it just being too tiny in his hands. The boy will be in tears and carve another notch (with builder’s permission) into the side of their work table for amount of times Logan has accidentally destroyed something.

-Andy loves walking Nemo around town to get the pup’s exercise in. He especially loves it when Logan decides to join him and how they could talk about everything and nothing until it’s time to head back.

-and the builder is always there too, waiting for them both with more love and adoration in their eyes than they both think they’re worth.

AIRBWODBWORJR SIS- ALL I FUCKING THINK ABOUT IS UNSUUR. NO REALLY, I’M A SLUT FOR DISHING ABOUT MY OWN BUILDER, SCOUT, AND UNSUUR. PLS ASK ME SOMETIME AND I THINK I’LL LOVE YOU FOREVER. I EVEN CREATED A FUCKING BACKSTORY FOR MY BABY I CAN’T-

🪨Unsuur HCs🪨

-he’s a bit more alive behind closed doors with the builder. More comfortable and relaxed. He doesn’t have to question his words or try reading the room due to nerves he’s gonna misstep.

-he WILL let curse words slip here and there when alone too. He takes on a lot of work and both he and Justice are sick of the backlash the Civil Corps keeps receiving when they’re the ONLY TWO officers for a whole town that’s got a LOT OF SHIT going on. He’s comfortable with the builder to vent calmly about it but he’s gonna swear every few sentences.

-his smile is actually stunning. Truly. It looks expensive like he’s had braces and has taken care of them. It’s rare to see him smile but when he does, time really does pause for a moment. Perfect teeth with pretty canines. Wanna become entranced? Catch sight of a breathless Unsuur as his mouth parts and his bottom canines poke out as he tries to catch his breath.

- pls pls pls play with his hair. He loves it and it’s one of the most calming things in the world for him with his stressful job and having to socialize daily. Any tension he has will slowly melt the further the builder’s fingers weave and tangle through his hair.

-habitually feeds the builder’s pet(s)

-baby actually silently sulks around when he’s upset. Gets into a fight with the builder? (AHDJRNEJ RARE )He won’t talk or continue arguing, but he doesn’t like straying far from builder. He’ll literally be sitting right next to them, arms crossed and lip just silently jutted because he wants to speak but he also doesn’t want to. Unsuur still wants the builder’s attention- but like, there’s a principle here.

- doesn’t flirt, but compliments with an overwhelming and heart aching amount of sincerity and love.

-while he doesn’t flirt, he DOES sound like he often does given how blunt and truthful he is. It takes awhile to figure out but amuses others nonetheless.

-he doesn’t look it, but he literally sees so much. He sees everything the builder does and worries for them. Sees the continuous efforts and their creations and is in awe, his respect growing each day. There’s a shift in their mood? He knows. He’s not great with people or picking up social cues all the time, but he’s well versed in the builder the further the relationship progresses. He picks up on the patterns. The causes and effects. The little things.

-the builder is truly the one person Unsuur knows like the back of his hand. And he loves that. He wouldn’t have it any other way.

-Unsuur really values and relies on communication and honesty. He may become well versed with his builder, but he’s not all-knowing. He needs conversation and for the builder to say what’s on their mind. He struggles with people in general sometimes or his bluntness cuts through his chances of learning with others. Unsuur needs their trust and understanding if he’s to be with them.

-he’s not big on dates or the idea really. But he enjoys his time with the builder, even if it means leaving the house. He’s down for it and lets go of the idea of his work being tied to the interactions. It’s Unsuur and the builder. That’s all that matters and it’s all he needs to keep in mind.

-he has more expressions than most would think. Like, he smirks, glares, sulks, smiles, etc. The rest of the town, the world, doesn’t know though because Unsuur lets go of his well fastened mask only when he’s with the builder. They may catch glimpses of these expression, but they’re more minute. That doesn’t take away from the pure nature of them or their authenticity. Unsuur just like, operates at half power if he’s out with the builder in public. Mindful of prying eyes for the builder and the robotic deputy.

-Unsuur spends important holidays with the builder’s family in Highwind, feeling like he’s one of them. He’s the builder’s mom’s favorite. Not that she said that but she did-

-if the builder is ever the one most angry from the rare fights and Unsuur is left waiting for them to simmer down a bit before apologizing (again. He apologizes rather quickly but always has to wait a bit before doing it once more if it’s a particularly bad mood the builder is in) they can find him out past their house, stacking rocks.

-Unsuur doesn’t deal well with emotional stress. He pretty much abandoned that sort of thing when coming to Sandrock. Living his life of simplicity and trying to limit the complications outside of his work life. Because of that, when anything happens to the builder or with them, it turns Unsuur inside out. He lacks his barely there filter. He snaps and is a lot more blunt than before. He becomes jaded and more stoic than anyone thought possible. But because the builder is his person, his prime source of comfort, his nerves twist and gnaw at him to make up or go to them. The closer he gets to them the more vulnerable, the more he starts feeling like he’s shaking and exhausted. He doesn’t handle it well.

-Drunk Unsuur is Justice’s worst enemy. It’s like an alter ego he takes on but it’s not a drastic change. Just snide remarks, biting comments, sarcasm, and some resentment slips out. Unsuur loves his friend, but there are times where Justice makes him feel like he’s nothing more than his insubordinate that doesn’t even hold a proper rank. And Justice and Unsuur work an awful lot, but Unsuur does get tasked with far more than one should get. It drains a person and while Unsuur normally wouldn’t let his thoughts linger on the things Justice says or does to him, his subconscious spins it around on replay until the moment the deputy in training gets drunk or buzzed and then it slips out.

-having the builder know to be on the lookout for Unsuur drinking saves the man from spilling his resentment and insecurities to his friend. It’s not easy to hear his slurred rambles because, well, Unsuur actually has a LOT to say that’s been building up and affecting him, but there’s a one of a kind trust he has with his significant other to be the one he spills it to. That’s why he asks them to intercept and cart him out if he ever ends up intoxicated quicker or easier than he thought he’d be.

-he actually loves affection! He didn’t get it at first because it was never with those he felt a connection with or that desire to belong to, but he does now. He doesn’t care about PDA or being embarrassed by it. He gets shy and sometimes it’s rather odd how he does. But he’s all for holding hands, surprise hugs, or greeting/parting kisses in public. He human and others should know that by now.

-he never considered a future at all beyond earning deputy or making the news. He also didn’t think he’d live a life outside his work. Meeting the builder and falling for them actually throws him through a loop and he’s helpless as he follows after them as their friend while he painstakingly waits for the day where he finds out if they could be more.

-hurting Unsuur and betraying him causes the man to fully shut down. He really does become a robot then. His trust with intimacy, affection, insecurities, etc- it doesn’t come easy and he had a hard time bringing down his walls. He loses a desire to do anything he truly likes and he won’t find anyone else to love because what he gave the builder was unconditional and everlasting. (Personally think Unsuur is one of the demiromantic/demisexual people of Sandrock) Any damage dealt is permanent and reminds him that he was better off as he was before he met them.

-breaking away from that sad part: Unsuur likes being close when sleeping. He’s the one to gravitate first if they fall asleep without touching. His body subconsciously seeks his builder always.

The future child will be the second greatest accomplishment of my life. My first will always be being the one to have created Unsuur giving the builder the nickname “gem”. I will never top that and I’ve accepted it. Not even graduating uni felt as significant as that. 💀
