𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑 since you told the family you were pregnant, Damian has become noticeably more protective than usual— it's subtle, but present in a way he hadn’t been before.
It showed most when Jason wasn’t around to hover over you himself. With you, Damian was quiet, gentle, and surprisingly easy company. He asked questions about the baby with a kind of cautious curiosity─ the kind he’d never let anyone outside the house see─ that a child only ever has.
Inside your home, he wasn’t the sharp, guarded young man everyone knew. He was still a kid figuring things out—one who didn’t always have the answers, one who sometimes pretended he didn’t care about feeling the baby kick— even though he always paused when it happened. Listening to the baby move fascinated him; he’d go still, eyes softening in a way he’d deny if anyone else walked in.
He didn’t complain about running errands or helping around the house, either. If anything, he seemed to like having something useful to do for you.
And on the days when your emotions got the better of you and you ended up crying over nothing in particular, he never made you feel embarrassed. He’d stand there stiffly at first, unsure, until you pull him into a hug.
Then he’d melt just a little, letting his forehead rest against your shoulder while you rubbed his back or carded your fingers through his hair. He liked the comfort you gave him, even if he’d never say it out loud. The tough exterior he carried around slipped the second you cupped his cheek or held him close.
Those moments were quiet, steady, and strangely tender—something he’d never admit he needed, but always accepted.
Now, would he act like this if Jason was around?
Absolutely not─ he'd rather jump off a cliff than to give that man the satisfaction of seeing him gentle.
If Jason was around, Damian would go right back to needling him, taking up space on purpose just to watch him get irritated.
But Jason wasn’t a fool.
He knew Damian better than anyone. I mean, He may be an idiot at times but he knows that Damian has a soft spot for you. He sees it in the way Damian looks at you—not just as his wife, but as someone who has become a mother figure in Damian's life.
When you and Jason moved into the three‑bedroom house, the third room was labeled a guest room, but everyone knew who it was really for.
You kept clothes there for him, games, books, little things he liked. You made sure he always had something to eat. You gave him attention without demanding anything in return.
And Damian respected that.
Yet, he never showed up unannounced.
He valued the trust you gave him, respected you and Jason’s space─ he treated it like something sacred. When he'd ask if he it's okay to stay over, it was always with that quiet, careful tone he only used with you. And more often than not, after a quick look between you and Jason, the answer was always yes—especially when you were the one nudging Jason toward it.
The dynamic between you wasn’t dramatic or loud like you expected. It was just a small, steady bond growing in the background—one built on trust, comfort, and affection.
After everything—the crying spells, the strange cravings that had both Jason and Damian giving you the same confused side‑eye, the endless nesting, the hours of labor—Damian learns quickly that whatever he felt for this baby was real.
It wasn’t something he had to force.
It just happened, naturally.
Once the chaos of the birth settled and everyone had taken their turns visiting, bringing flowers and stuffed animals and soft blankets, the room finally quieted. Jason stepped out to talk to a nurse. The others had gone home. It was just you, the baby, and Damian lingering near the door like he wasn’t sure if he was allowed to stay.
You noticed him before he said anything.
He looked frozen in place, eyes fixed on the tiny bundle in your arms. There was something almost shy in the way he watched her—like he wanted to get closer but didn’t trust himself to ask.
You lifted your head and met his emerald eyes. “Do you want to hold her?”
He didn’t answer right away.
His shoulders tensed, glancing between you and the baby like he was weighing his options. He gave a small shrug, the kind that meant yes but also meant he was nervous.
You smiled and motioned him over.
He'd set his jacket on the chair, move slowly, like he was approaching something delicate. You'd shift to make room for him on the edge of the bed and guide him through it—one hand under her head and neck, the other supporting her back. He followed your instructions exactly, jaw tight with concentration.
When she settled into his arms, he went completely still. His posture stiff at first, afraid to breathe too hard or move too quickly. You rested your hand on his shoulder and told him he was doing fine, that she wasn’t going to break, that she already liked him.
And as if she understood, the baby snuggled closer to his chest, her tiny fingers curling against his shirt. Damian’s whole expression softened—barely, but enough for you to see it. His shoulders loosened. His grip steadied. He looked down at her like he was seeing something he didn’t have a name for yet.
You leaned back against the pillows, watching the two of them settle into each other. You observe Damian for a long moment, the way he keeps his eyes fixed on her face like he’s memorizing every detail. The room is quiet except for the soft hum of machines and the baby’s slow, steady breathing. He doesn’t move until she shifts slightly in his arms, and then he adjusts instinctively—gentle, careful, protective.
When Jason comes back, he stops in the doorway, taking in the sight of Damian sitting beside you, the baby tucked against his chest. He doesn’t say a word, just smiles faintly and lets the moment breathe. Damian glances up, almost defensive, but Jason only nods, a silent acknowledgment that he understands.
From that day on, something changes between them. Damian starts visiting more often, always under the excuse of “checking on you,” but you knew it was really to see her. He learns how to hold her properly, how to rock her when she fusses, how to make her laugh with the smallest of gestures. He’s patient in a way that surprises everyone—especially himself.
As months pass, she begins to recognize him. Her eyes light up when he walks into the room, and her tiny hands reach for him before anyone else. When she starts babbling, “Mi‑Mi” becomes her version of his name─ because she's still learning, “Mi-Mi” seems easier to pronounce than his actual name. Despite it being such a girly nickname─ and though he tries to act indifferent by the title, you still catch him smiling every time she says it.
He reads to her, teaches her little words, lets her tug at his hair and decorate him with stickers. He’s the one who keeps her calm during thunderstorms, the one she runs to when she’s scared or hurt. You see it all—the way he softens around her, the way she brings out a gentleness he never shows the world.
Years later, when she’s old enough to walk and talk and fill the house with noise, Damian still keeps that quiet protectiveness.
He’s her constant, her safe place.
And every time you see them together—her perched on his shoulders, laughing, calling him “Mi‑Mi” like it’s the most natural thing in the world—you know that bond started right there, in that hospital room, where he held her and realized she was something he’d protect for the rest of his life.
