Unfortunately not much in the way of spoons this time around, so I likely won't be doing many attacks or defenses if at all, but I wanted to put a few of my characters out there this time at least.
Paramount City: The Underground, Part 1: History(MTG planar faction)
Overview, The Metropolitan Defenders
"Justice for all."
Summary: Street-level heroes with a fae twist, led by lesbian batman
Paragon, a shining beacon of hope. Alley Cat, a fearsome beast of shadows. Two great heroes, equal but opposite, and when Paragon formed the Metropolitan Defenders, there was no one she wanted more at her side than Alley Cat. Together they formed an unbeatable team. They were co-workers, friends, rivals, and even lovers. They seemed inseparable.
Yet after years together, a divide grew between them. Alley Cat thought Paragon was getting too comfortable with politicians and police. Paragon thought Alley Cat's methods outdated and missing the bigger picture. Eventually, they parted on bitter terms, splitting the monolith that was the old Defenders and changing the face of heroism forever.
This was the origin of the Underground.
The Underground are heroes who operate outside the system. Vigilantes, neighborhood defenders, political activists, and those who just don't fit in. They are the have-nots of the hero world, often skirting the edges of the law in order to pursue their own sense of justice. Because of this, they can't just meet in a big fancy hall like the Municipal Defenders. Instead, they have a secret meeting spot at King's Court.
Early on in her career, Alley Cat took down the fae crime lord King Mob and stole his power over the Backstreets, a side dimension that exists just around the bend of forgotten ways. It became her signature power, the ability to disappear into one alley and come out another. She made her secret lair where he once ruled, a dilapidated extradimensional railway station with infinite roads and tunnels leading away. When she formed the Underground, she shared a little bit of this power with others, allowing them to reach King's Court from anywhere, though they always return to the same place.
Unfortunately, this became a liability during the Phyrexian invasion. Compleated Undergrounders were able to infiltrate King's Court and turned the safe haven into a slaughtering ground, spreading their corruption throughout the city. In response, Alley Cat shut down the Backstreets, locking herself inside with her Compleated former allies.
Everyone wrote her off as dead, until suddenly the Ways opened again. Alley Cat was found sitting on King Mob's old throne, exhausted and battered but uninfected. The entire station was painted with blood and oil, and not a single living Phyrexian remained.
It was only then that she found out about Paragon's death, a week after the funeral.
Hello and welcome to the MtG Fantober 2022 master post! This month is dedicated to the creativity of the community filling the multiverse with their own characters both planeswalker and planebound! (And don’t you worry about fan planes missing out, I’ve got a separate idea for that in the late winter, so later on look out for Fanplane February 😉)
Each week will have a suggested theme, but feel free to post whatever you want to at any time! There are many ways to celebrate! Feel free to post visual art, fanfics, music playlists, custom cards, real cards that fit your characters, or just talk and gush about your characters!
Don’t forget, interaction if half the fun! Discuss with each other, ask people about their OCs if you’re intrigued by them, compliment their fanart, fics, or custom cards. In general, remember to have fun with each other and be kind! Don’t forget to tag your related posts as Fantober 2022 so everyone can find them! :D
WEEKS ONE AND TWO—Fanwalker Spotlight and Planebound Spotlight
Introduce us to your fanwalkers in week one and your Planebound characters in week two!
Ideas: Character bios/intro sheets, signature spell book ideas, custom cards, origin fics. Tell us about their friends, family, or pets!
WEEK THREE—Free For All!
Week three can be for anything you want! AUs, planar chaos style what-ifs, how did they interact or affect canon events/speculation of how they would have interacted with canon events (even if it’s something they weren’t around for like the Brother’s War or original Phyrexian invasion, the speculation is mostly for fun!), crossovers (your character is a pokemon trainer now or is in Starfleet). Any random what-if is fair game. Or just continue anything you didn’t finish talking about in week one or two. I will also probably queue up old Fan Character Friday prompts throughout this week in case there’s nothing in particular that catches your eye.
It is fanTOBER after all! Show off your OCs enjoying autumn fun! How would they celebrate Halloween, or MtG holidays such as Harvesttide? Feel free to speculate here, what kind of autumn festival do you think different planes might have (does Ravnica have Halloween?) And if Halloween isn’t your favorite holiday, show off your characters enjoying any holiday (real or imagined)!
Have fun, it’s the last week! Feel free to do anything from any of the previous weeks as well!
How do you think your fanplanes would handle Phyrexian invasion? at least based off of what we’ve seen so far
Now that the story for March of the Machine is out and we have a better understanding of just what the invasion of the Multiverse entailed, here is how my planes faired @leafdrake-haven.
Floramore
As the clear sun blessed skies above the verdant plane where ripped asunder, the branches of the invasion tree quickly Sought the few population centers upon the largely rural world.
One of which was Soleildorée, the palace of the Sun king and where dozens of aristocratic courts fraternized on the daily. The branch came crashing into the protective charms that shielded those with from harm external harm, but which also prevented those with from harming each other. But the elaborate crafted enchantments could only buy them a few moments before giving way. It was a slaughter, the guards stationed there where largely ceremonially, their duties consisting of escorting nobles who feel out of favorer off the primacies.
The pregnant Queen Elenora was escorted to safety by her loyal thorns threw the maze of catacombs beneath the palace. As with in the grand ball room, amongst the cacophony of panicking nobles, those who had long been plotting against King Alphonse struck. The young king felt a blade slip into his back as a honeyed voice whispered bitterly in his ear. "Dusk has come for the kingdoms of the living, now rises the king of the blood moon," No one even notices the alabaster sun bleed out upon the marble floor.
In the west on a hill overlooking the malfaisant wood is the last great castle from the time of the verdant kings. A branch having planted itself in the courtyard and the sound of a massacre could be heard. But it is not the inhabitance of the ancient keep that die this day, but those foolish enough to defile the home of Duke Lyle the Dhampir master of the hunt. The whirlwind of death that takes place there leaves the Phyrexian in reeling in honor. As their precious oil bubbles and hisses against Lyle's cold pale skin, before flaking away harmlessly like autumn leaves.
For it is in this moment that this plane so abundant in organic life let it's distain for those who had come to despoil it known. Across fields of wilding flowers herds of unicorns manifest from between beams of sunlight, horns lowered in a living phalanx that crashes into the Phyrexian host. Swarms of fairies swirls long the branches of the invasion tree, sticking prickles, stolen needles and bits of glass between the armor of the unnatural invaders. In small towns all across the plane errant knights come to their defense, reliving the glory of the age of chivalry. As covens of witches tap into the fear and panic flooding Floramore to weave curses of power not seen before.
For if ever there was a plane of nightmares for the Phyrexians it is here, where even the oil in their veins feels as if boils.
Out of all my planes Floramore fairs the best, below are short snippets of what happens with a few other others if you interested.
Hyverta
Being a planeswalker who is actively looking for allies to aid him in his fight with the Discordance, Nivel knew of the Phyrexian's planes to invade the multiverse. Sadly there was little he could do to rally his home in defense of another threat as it was actively being torn apart by the first. So when the sky shattered and great tendrils wound their wat to the cities not yet laid low by rampaging elementals, the half orc thought this was the end. Only the Phyrexian found the Discordance every bit as vexing as the natives of Hyverta did. Their magic acted erratically, turning upon them as it became sentient and hostile. The entire plane descending into anarchy.
Lochtamor
The great powers of Lochtamor had long been preparing for war with one another so the Phyrexians found them neither unprepared, nor lacking. The highlands erupted into battle before the first branch even touched the ground. The clans of cat giants found there are warriors to their core and always eager for a fight and meet the invaders with a ferocity they where unexpecting. Above the bright isle star faced angels did battle with twisted mockers of their forms as below the polished armor of the kingdoms defenders dripped with oil. The invading forces that found their way to the Thurngul forest quickly became lost in the maze like woodland. The elves of moon and shadow used their magic to isolate their would be conquers and pick them off one by one. But al is not well for one of the Invasion trees branches found it's way to the heart of the plane, Loch Tamor, the great lake where the lay lines of the world meet. Already the surface of the lake bubbles with glistens as a great storm threatens to drown the plane oil. Earthquakes rock the lands as drakes and wyrms burst forth twisted into phyrexian likeness, as the primordial elder dragons drown in the essence of phyrexia.
Kamakshetra
The great jungle plane only has one population to speak of, the grand city Zataparva. The branches of the Invasion tree rip the city the spans the Bo river in two, sending great portions of it crashing into the waters below. The battle for the city was over before it even started, the population fleeing into the relative safety of the jungles. Those that could fight engaging in gorilla warfare as the man-eating plants and chimera beasts prey upon the invaders. All around them the thousand avatar and incarnation of the goddess, for who for the plane in named for, brings her fury down upon Norn's orthodoxly.
Crusabella
Crusabella knew of the coming invasion long before it happened for those gifted with visions of future spoke in unison of metal demons pouring from the sky upon the tendrils of a Eldredge kraken. The church had to put many of them down as black tear poured from their eyes and their bodies became hosts of metal demons. But when the invasion happened they could not have foreseen that the longest held prophecy, the one given by the prophetess the church was founded, upon would come to pass. The halls of the Candled Thrown where thrown upon and the angel gather soul flooded back upon the plane. The souls inhabit anything they can, the finely crafted marble armors made by the church, gargoyles and even entire ships as the gathered with the living to bright back this invaders.
Sucrotopolis
The lands made entirely of sugar and spice was in the mist of a brutal civil war. So when this strange being made of meat and metal came spilling from the sky the Sugar and Spices put aside their difference momentarily to fight a common threat. Though the Phyrexians quickly discover that everything on this plane was organic, but a form of processed organic material that their oil could not interact with in any significant way. So just as quickly as the invasion of Sucrotopolis started the branches of the Invasion Tree returned back threw the portals it opened as their forces would best be used elsewhere. So with that distraction out of the way the Sugars and the Spices got back to killing one another.
This is a little thing thats been in my brain for DAYS now (shortstory in notes, possibly badly written but someone has to write it down)
His hands softly grasps the rail around the pool. Bioluminescent flowers shown a shimmering a light blue over head, making him cast a shadow to the surface of the undersea. Cyrin traced the grown patters of the rail deep in contemplation while his eyes followed the trail of the fish that swam beneath his feet.
It was distressing at all of it. Just this day alone, having to get interrupted by multiple mind mages that Ivan had to drive off. The fact of the Dimir activity sky rocketing made him more uneasy, especially when Prime Speaker Vannifar asked for the guild to strengthen their defenses and keep secrets close. Something is gonna happen, and it didn't sit right with biomancer.
He looked around the room to see it mostly empty. Getting out a notebook and pen from his satchel, Cyrin cracked it open and whispered. "Ivan... do you know what has happened? Why is the Dimir acting up?" With a practiced hand, he pretended to jot down notes.
The reassuring grasp of his left shoulder sent an uncomfortable tingling wave down his spine, causing Cyrin to shift. He had always hated when Ivan caused that sensation as he subconciously look that way to see the usual empty space next to him. That gravelly but measured voice spoke afterwards.
"It concerns me too. But, talking to those colleagues gave me an inkling of what they're after: Planeswalkers."
"Iz-zet really that again?" His raised annoyed voice shook him a bit as he saw one of the other raising a brow at him. "Like I said previously, there being alternate universes than just Ravnica is particularly insane."
"Trust me, Cy, I still hold that belief strongly, but that operative had her own research on the new Orzhov Guildmaster." Ivan's voice echoed out as he dripped fed the biomancer one of the key aspects from a traded thought strand. A vivid memory of over hearing Teysa Karlov and this new comer, Kaya, within the halls of the basilica washing over his senses causing Cyrin to place his head in his hand and to block out the outer stimulus. Much like before, this use of telepathy caused a massive headache to pang out. The information that was made was a deep talk about an entity by the name of "Bolas" and the deal the two Orzhov made.
"So, essentially, the Dimir are looking for every evidence of this mystical Bolas guy?" He could feel a mental nod from the mind mage. "Great, absolutely great. Krokt."
Cyrin pinched his nose, growling a bit in frustation. How would they supposed to deter mind mages from his mind. Of course, he knew that Ivan did his part well, after all it was beneficial for the both of them if he prevents it. The innate naphil essence with his mindscape was always wanting to ensnare those unfortunate telepaths. He had never enjoyed this situation his yore ancestors placed their family, let alone the entire fact of the nephilim's existence. This mysterious Bolas and his machinations is only going to turn this situation into something truly horrific.
She’s doing good! It’s a little frustrating being a tiny person with the divine knowledge of an angel, but she’s got very gentle and understanding folks in her life looking out for her :3c
Would anyone be interested in a fanwalker discord server? It wouldn’t be limited to fanwalkers, Planebound would be cool too! There could be rp channels and art channels and idk, it seems like it could be fun?
