CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT CHALLENGE #1
Full Name: Dorcas Elizabeth Meadowes
Dorcas- Derived from the Greek dorkas (gazelle). The name was borne by a Christian woman of Joppa who devoted herself to works of charity. Through the prayers of Peter, she was raised from the dead, which led to many converting to Christianity
Elizabeth- Derived from the Hebrew elīsheba' (God is my oath). The name is borne in the Bible by a kinswoman of the Virgin Mary and mother of John the Baptist.
Birthday: 2nd of September (Virgo Star Sign)
Virgos are often put down badly by many astrologers and written up as being fussy and narrow-minded. But when a Virgo shines, there is practically no sign to match their inner light. An in-tune Virgo is a treat to meet. When a Virgo is confident within themselves they are the most successful, structured and creative of all the signs. Many Virgos can be found working in the "service to others" industries, ranging from welfare work, doctors, school-teachers through to practicing natural forms of healing like massage, herbal remedies etc. One of the most magical characteristics of the Virgo is no matter how many times life or romance turns sour on them, they still manage to maintain faith in others, refusing to become cynical. There is ingenuity around this sign, a kind-heartedness, which unfortunately is sometimes played upon by others for their advantage. Virgos can often become victims of relationship power-games, where they are mistreated. Creative and sensitive, Virgos are delicate people who, like rare and special orchids, require individual treatment to fully blossom into their true unique beauty. Shy, they are happy to allow others to take centre-stage and often generate their time and energy into making those they love happy or successful. Virgos are givers and when the chips are down and you need a friend, the one available during those testing times when you need advice or companionship the most, is likely to be a Virgo. Virgos understand human frailties better than most, because they are so deep and reflective themselves. With a Virgo in your life you have someone who understands and cares and any romance or friendship based upon these qualities is certain to be mutually rewarding.
Wand: 12 inches, Rosewood with Dragon heart string core, inflexible
Patronus - Corporeal or Non-Corporeal: Dorcas is a very powerful witch, one of the reasons Voldemort wants to recruit her; however, it is not until Dorcas is slightly older that she will be able to produce a Corporeal Patronus. Right now her Patronus has a dog like form that will over time show itself to be a wolf. The wolf is a guardian and a symbol of loyalty, faithfulness, honesty, and willingness to fight injustice. Doe is very protective of those she considers her family and is fiercely loyal, almost to a fault, and this makes a wolf her perfect protector.
Amortentia: the smell of petrichor, firewhiskey, and musk
Petrichor (the smell of dust after rain)-Dorcas has always loved how the world looks and feels after the rain; it is clean and fresh as if the rain has washed all of the bad things away. It is something that she associated with her childhood and feeling safe and loved.
Firewhiskey- When Dorcas’ first brewed Amortentia this was the most powerful smell, for rather obvious reasons. Firewhiskey is how she has gotten through to this point in her life. It also reminds her of her friends because when together that is the drink of choice.
Musk- This smell shocked Dorcas more than the other smells because she can’t quite place it.
You are called into Dumbledore’s office, and asked the following questions. Answer them from your character’s point of view
Dorcas sat in front of the Headmaster, her head bent respectfully, the way her parents taught her. She looked at her hands, which were folded in her lap, as she wondered why she had been called into his office. Though she was nervous, she sat as still as a statue as it would have been rude to fidget.
What do you think about the rumors of a war rising outside Hogwarts?
“I’m very certain that they aren’t rumors, Headmaster. People are making choices about what side they are on already. I feel certain that very soon there will be a tipping point that makes us go from this uncomfortable standoff to full fledged fighting.”
What is your thoughts on the muggle world?
“Unfortunately, Headmaster, I only know the little I’ve learned from my friends. I’ve never really been exposed to it, but from what I do know it is amazing.”
Would you support you-know-who?
“Not if I have the choice no, Headmaster.” As much as Dorcas hated everything about The Dark Lord, she feared the choice would not be her’s to make.
Who do you think has already shown their support to him?
“That is not really, my place to say, Headmaster. Although, I do feel that perhaps some Slytherin’s have shown an interest in His cause.”
If you don’t support you know who, what would you want to do to fight against what he’s trying to accomplish?
“May I ask, Headmaster, if this conversation will stay between the two of us?” When Dumbledore affirmed Dorcas continued. “I want to fight him and everyone like him. I don’t believe a word of blood supremacy, and I want him to know that I am my own person, who is tired of having my decisions made for me, Headmaster.”
What are you feelings on muggleborns?
“I have quite a few Muggleborn friends, Headmaster. They have the best of both worlds; they have the gift of magic, and they also have everything the Muggle word has to offer. Also, most of them are just as any Pureblood I know. I find it disgusting how many people merely brush them off because of their blood, Headmaster.”
