Wild Speculation about 43+

Ok so here is some fact about upcoming issue:

One of the covers for 43 is the first cover of the series reenacted with a group of identical Swerves.

Nick Roche has said he felt the needed to develop a totally new style of drawing for this issue.

According to the SDCC IDW and Hasbro panel this issue is going to be “the most bizarre issue you’ve ever read”

The preview we saw seems to be an extremely extended single page spread.

JRo also tweeted that the first, fourth, and fifth pages of the issue have nothing to do with the main plot. So as many questions as the preview raises, it’s apparently not even the Main Situation.

Still, with Tailgate literally reading the comic, wanting to avoid spoilers (about his own life??), and discussing tumblr and tfwiki, we’re off to a very meta start.

My theory: IN MTMTE 43, OR IN THE ISSUES BEYOND IT, SWERVE IS GOING TO TRAVEL THROUGH TIME AND SPACE, POSSIBLY INTERDIMENSIONALLY, POSSIBLY ASCEND TO REALITY WARPING GODHOOD?

Ok listen hear me out.

Time travel has been canon since the start of Elegant Chaos.

At the start of 41 Swerve was watching the show “Quantum Leap.”

We know this because the TV says “theorising he could time travel within his own lifetime, doctor...” a excerpt from the show’s intro.

For those not in the know, the plot of Quantum Leap is that this dude travels into the past and temporarily takes the place of key individuals to correct historical mistakes and prevent bad events from happening. Once he succeeds he disappears and moves on to another time and place.

At the end of 42 Swerve concludes his “work here is done” and fucking disappears.

Like... for real, y’all.

Which Means: The idea that swerve could travel through time and space has been pretty damn explicitly foreshadowed.

Alternate dimensions have been canon since the end of Elegant Chaos.

We’ve already seen the Functionist AU at the end of Elegant Chaos. JRo has confirmed we’ll be seeing that universe again.

We’ve also seen some of the LL crew in Shattered Glass before. Not in the actual series but in TF Collector’s Club #50.

Is this scenario wacky as hell? Yes. But consider that the only scenario James Roberts thinks is too wacky to believe is the idea that all transformers would be heterosexual.

Also consider that the covers for 44 look grim as hell and we know JRo loves to pull wacky feel good shit directly before eviscerating us.

Look me in the eyes and tell me James “fanfic writing shipname using tfwiki referencing” Roberts would not take literally any excuse of show off his favorite AUs.

Which Means: Interdimensional travel would not actually be that surprising an event in this series.

Swerve has always been into going on and documenting quests/adventures/etc.

Swerve has been breaking the fourth wall since he got affected by Brainstorm’s metabomb, including speaking directly to the readers in what seems to be a weird barren white space/implied bar.

One of the upcoming issue’s solicits is actually narrated by swerve.

Brainstorm is capable of p much anything, science wise. I don’t think I need to cite this. His Meta bomb could potentially have had effects beyond what we’ve seen so far.

Which Means: If anyone is gonna ascend to a higher plane of the narrative, its Swerve.

But the best thing is that, even if this theory utterly falls through and none of it is true, the actual shit JRo plans to do with this issue is probably going to be even weirder and more entertaining.

MTMTE 40 - Atomizer, Getaway, Whirl, and the Fake List

Hey, remember that fake list that Atomizer gave Rodimus way back in issue 29?

We’ve known ever since the beginning of season 2 that someone is orchestrating some kind of anti-Megatron operation on the Lost Light. More than one person, too, because Whirl is coordinating with someone else remotely. Back then, it was impossible to come to any real conclusion about who else could be involved - the list of suspects would’ve included almost everyone on the ship.

I think at least two people were involved in this from the start, though. Whirl, obviously. And Atomizer - I don’t think, in a series like MTMTE, it’s a coincidence that Whirl attacks Megatron with a crossbow. Atomizer is a known shady character on the Lost Light - he gave Rodimus that fake list, after all. 

So, Getaway. Getaway is also clearly operating towards some end goal with Tailgate. He’s been expertly manipulating Tailgate ever since the Lost Light departed Cybertron a second time. Before this, Getaway had no apparent interest in Tailgate at all, and suddenly he’s fixated on him, and on manipulating him. He’s isolating Tailgate from someone close to him, over-inflating his confidence, and encouraging rash and sometimes even violent behavior. But why?

I feel like the answer to this question probably goes back to who Getaway works for. Getaway works for Prowl. So whatever it is that Getaway is trying to accomplish, it’s a good guess it’s something that Prowl wants.

Prowl does not believe that the war is over. Prowl does not like Megatron. Prowl seems to view the fact that Megatron is walking free as a result of a legal technicality as a personal offense. Prowl is exactly the type to operate outside the law to make sure “necessary” things get done. And I get the feeling that Prowl would very much enjoy pulling something like this off right under Ultra Magnus’ nose.

Now, it was Atomizer who gave Rodimus the fake list. He tried to trick Rodimus into leaving certain people off the crew - or alternatively, into keeping certain other people on board. Prowl’s people?

((During Tarn’s first appearance fighting the Scavengers, he transforms a ridiculous and unnecessary amount of times. So I think there’s some credence to the addiction. Still, it’s an interesting theory.))

((Patient death at Delphi was up to an even 50 percent for six months; even if they only had 25 patient at a time, that would mean Tarn was blowing through 12 t-cogs a month and would need a surgery to replace his almost every other day. Even if you lowered the patient number down to ten he would need a surgery once a week to justify that number of intake.

And, if we’re being truthful, the patient numbers would probably be much higher than either of those two extremely low estimates.

How does a mecha who goes through that much constant replacement even find the time to recover and be on the battlefield? Unless Tarn is the worst sort of compulsive hoarder and has a room full of thousands of t-cogs there’s something fishy about the math and logistics.))

I’ve always complained that the impact of Tarn’s addiction is never really shown in the comics, but I’m beginning to wonder if the addiction was just a cover. I mean... they were collecting an inane amount of t-cogs, more than even one mecha could ever need even if he had an addiction.

What if it wasn’t Tarn that needs them but Nickle? What if she is up to something? ~o3o~ I like this better than the addiction thing.))
