dick's been in the game for too long to use corny, overused hollywood tropes of what their life SHOULD be. the whole 'he's right behind me, isn't he', 'no i in team' schtick seemed to just be the harbinger of bad days and dick ultimately tried to avoid it. THAT BEING SAID, and he hates to admit it, but it's . . . quiet. some might even say too quiet. the rational part of dick's brain thought hey, maybe it's one of those rarely seen low-stress days. where his phone doesn't ring not because of some nefarious super-villain plot to cut all communication but rather because there was nothing to communicate. an off day. and since he's operating under cliches now, he's not about to look a gift horse in the mouth (what the hell is a gift horse??)
so, essentially, he's not gonna question it. he leaves his phone on the charger (ringer on, just in case), turns on the tv and realizes, vaguely he has no idea what to do with his free time. are hobbies still a thing? does he need one? he's just about to start on dinner (order from his embarrassingly high pile of take-out menus) when he hears a knock at his door. TOO QUIET. he just had to say it. dick walks over with (flash-themed) socked feet, checks his security measures are in place (just in case) and then abruptly releases all tension in his shoulders (when did that get there?). TIM & STEPH. a nice surprise, then. " you're not take-out. " he says in lieu of greeting.
