So the sublet lady came back and said she actually can do mid March thru December and wants to chat about a couple of things for finalizing the lease. So now I have to figure out if that’s what I want to do. Considering the location I want plus a pool that basically narrows my options down to two things.
My LA housing options
1. Sublet two bedroom from middle aged lady for 3.5k plus utilities (~200)
2. Rent an unfurnished 2 bedroom apartment for 2600-2800 plus utilizes and fees and rent furniture for 400-509 depending on what I get. For 3 to 3.3k total (plus fees and utilities)
Places would be in near identical locations and amenities.
Pros for 1.
Two beds with office and guest space (come visit me!)
Fully furnished with all towels and linens and nicely decorated
Potentially gain contact in city
Cons:
1. The inherent risk of subletting
2. The weirdness of living in someone else’s house and using their things, potentially always feeling like a visitor bit like it’s “my” place
3. A little more expensive
Pros for 2
Fully in control of my house and can ship all of my stuff to it
Standard lease process. Maybe more secure?
A little cheaper
Cons for 2
Way more work. Have to rent furnitures for then ship my kitchen towels ect. And it do with out or buy things there
Still have to find exact building and hard to scope out which ones are good from far away
Only one bedroom, less space for working from home or people to come visit.
Laying it all out seems like the options really come down to whether I want the ease of an already furnished or do the work to have the comfort of my own stuff. I could also rent a two bedroom, but it’s not really worth the extra cost to me when having a comparable one bedroom. I can not find a one bed where I want and with the amenities want.
For extra fun I am now thinking my start date could get pushed, but I won’t know for sure until Tuesday when I finally, finally, talk to the people I will be working with. (I am also kind of annoyed with my manager for trying to push such an early start date when I feel like she should’ve had a better idea of how long this would take considering I am not the first she’s set up and the fact that these things always take this long. When she first told me 1/27 that they were moving forward she said she would have a proposal out that week and that I should start mid February. I had to push back so hard to even get the initial start to beg of March. And now here we are mid feb and the proposal only just got finished in Thursday and I’m meeting with them on Tuesday)
