MUDDY BOOTS PRESENTS: EVENT 002: THE END OF THE SUMMER LANTERN FESTIVAL '14
It's that time of the year again - the leaves are changing color, the winds are getting colder and after a long wait, it's finally time to take out all of our cozy sweaters and cute boots... Just kidding, we live in the goddamn South, all we're gonna get is two more months of Indian summer with just a hint of nighttime cold. Boo, right? At least it's finally acceptable to start gathering pumpkins and preparing for Halloween.
Fortunately, that doesn't stop us from celebrating the autumnal equinox with the annual End of the Summer Lantern Festival. As per usual, the two-day festival consists of daytime fair with plenty of games and activities to go around and nighttime dance accompanied by live music and fireworks, all of it culminating with the release of the lanterns on 22nd.
Come one, come all, let's send the summer away with lights!
WHAT EXACTLY IS GOING ON?: The End of the Summer Lantern Festival, duh. As previously mentioned, the festival consists of daytime fair and nighttime dance. Naturally, the fair is full of BBQ, beer and delicious local food as well as gaming booths, bumper cars and even a small ferris wheel. There's plenty of activities to go around including apple bobbing, unusually shaped vegetable competition and relay race. Both of the nights, however, are filled with live music for which a stage has been set up in the center of the town. There's country music, slow dancing and star gazing as well as a tiny firework show on the 21st and, of course, the actual lantern spectacle on the 22nd. The lanterns are sold on spot and as per tradition, all of them are released at once at midnight with good wishes written on each of them. All in all, it's two days full of booze, magic and greasy fingers, so be there or be square!
