their first meeting in skyfall is already great. q is young, sharp, and clearly ready to prove bond wrong for underestimating him. bond is older, battered, and still convinced experience beats whatever q can do from a laptop. the banter immediately works because neither of them backs down, but they’re both right in different ways - bond needs q’s brain, q still needs bond out there pulling the trigger when the situation calls for it. then the later films make it even better because q keeps helping him despite knowing bond is a nightmare for rules, equipment, and workplace boundaries. in spectre, he helps bond investigate off the books, secretly shelters him in his home at the risk of his own career, gets pulled into danger himself, and still keeps showing up for him. by no time to die, bond is literally interrupting q’s dinner plans by turning up unannounced at his flat, and q is annoyed but still lets him in because of course he does.

Mueller & Olivier

In Mueller, you've got your classic straitlaced knight/bodyguard with a strong sense of duty, a surprising sense of humor, and a hell of a job in protecting and watching over the doings of Olivier Lenheim, his childhood friend. In Olivier, you've got your classic charismatic, but feckless, roaming bisexual bard...or is he? This bard's got secrets, and Mueller's constantly on his heels. With Mueller and Olivier you get multiple fun dynamics: childhood friends, feckless charmer and straitlaced bodyguard, and political intrigue galore keeping them apart!

For the longest time while playing Trails in the Sky FC I kept wondering if Olivier's goofy nature was actually a mask for a much more serious individual and then I watched his scenes with Mueller and realized that no, he's just like that.
