Thank you so much for all the information on Scottish folds/straights! I was wondering--since I used to dog-walk wheaten terriers and one of the puppies got her ears glued to get the triangle shape--could you do the same thing to Scottish straight kittens, so you can get the fold without the horrible chronic pain? Or does cat ear cartilage work differently than dogs' (or maybe cat ears are too tiny, idk)?

i don’t really thing gluing dog ears down to ‘shape’ really does anything, to be honest. I tend to think those ears are going to do whatever they want to do anyway, and the Scottish Fold ears aren’t really a single fold, the whole shape is often different.

Gotta say I'm lOVING the FMAHP (f mops?) fic and your science bullshit did not disturb this science head (granted I am not very deep in the chemistry division so if I see chemical formulas I just go yUP COOL I'LL BELIEVE THAT) but the best part imho is the translation spell and how you're making it work. What made you choose the way you did for translating the names?[1/2?]

[2/2] Is it because we're (mostly) following the FMA peeps, so that's why the HP name translations are (idk what the right words are) phonetically translated (Sirius = serious), while the FMA name translations are synonyms (Havoc = Chaos, vs idk have ox)? And why the HP kids killed themselves laughing over Harry's name when Ed said it in front of them?

SO THE TRANSLATION IS ACTUALLY A LITTLE INCONSISTENT partially bc i forget/dont always see the phonetics (somebody pointed out that Grimmauld Place would probably sound like Grim Old Place and i was like [pikachu face meme] didn’t think of that) and partially bc im writing so fast that editing is. Later. it’s later. (ED USES FAHRENHEIT FOR NO REASON AND THEN KELVIN, DONT LOOK AT MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE) 

some stuff is based off how google translate works - like, havoc and chaos are synonyms! so the translator “software” is like Oh I Know That Word when it doesn’t actually QUITE have the right translation. Since it’s audio, homophone mixups also crop up - like whore crux. In the case of harry’s name - his first name sounds like Hairy, which i decided in amestrisan translates to like. Hirsute or something. and his last name is Potter - aka, literally, one who makes pottery. The amestrisan word isn’t the same as the english word - hence you get “ceramics professional” when it translates back, like when you run a sentence through google translate more than twice it starts to frag completely. 

(I WAS GONNA SHOEHORN A SCENE WHERE MAES AND ROY SAT DOWN WITH SIRIUS IN THE MAP ROOM AND PUT THE TRANSLATION ROCK FAR AWAY AND WERE LIKE, OKAY, PRONOUNCE EVERYBODY’S NAMES SO WE CAN COPY THE SOUNDS IN THE ORIGINAL LANGUAGE bc roy was like Fuck No i am not embarrassing myself by saying Hirsute Ceramics Professional when i mean Harry Potter, we need to write this shit down) (BUT THE SCENE DIDNT FIT, THATS OK, ITS NOT THAT IMPORTANT, PRETEND IT HAPPENED)

(fun fact i’m basing some amestrisan slang terms off translated russian slang - mostly bc russian is what i’m familiar enough with to use slang from, but also bc i headcanon that between the geography + ethnicities we see in FMA, amestris would be located roughly where Kazakhstan is on our earth map) (shhh i know it’s supposed to be germany or whatever but this works better imo) 

 tl,dr: the translation rocks are a convenient plot device as well as comedic opportunity and work basically like google translate: basically functional with occasional hilarity
