Trying to escape military service like: "Poison Seller, I require your weakest poisons."
it's actually so amazing she helped save the lives of the honorable men who did not wish to fight, while killing the most vile men, that is so fucking based

my favorite thing about louis is he's a business major in a world of theater kids. everyone's playing psychological games with each other through theater and rock music and the fractured art of storytelling and he's like "but what are the margins on my vampire hotel"
to anyone in the areas impacted by the wildfire smoke, my #1 biggest piece of advice as someone whos been dealing with wildfire smoke in the NW united states for years, is build yourself a Corsi-Rosenthal Cube
they perform as well as expensive HEPA air cleaners, and are comparatively VERY inexpensive. all you need is a box fan, 4 air filters, a piece of cardboard, and some duct tape!!!!
i think it took us maybe a half hour to put ours together, if that, and we replace the filters every 3 months. it's really made a HUGE difference, both when the air quality is bad, but also with our allergies
Saw these easy to read instructions on Twitter. Stay safe đ
where i am, a box fan and the filters run about $20 each, so if $100 is too much of a stretch at the moment, get the fan and one filter. tape the filter to the intake side of the fan, all the way around. this is also good if your space is small and a 20" cube won't fit.
I'm actually in tears laughing at these dumbfuck Republicans thinking we can CONTROL wildfire smoke (which, yes that IS what their letter implies). Gee, so sorry the climate-change fueled increase in the burning of millions of acres of boreal forest that has displaced MANY communities (thousands of people- most of them indigenous) is ruining YOUR nice sunny weather! If it bothers you so much why don't you send YOUR firefighting resources up here to help?

Man, you've gotta be fucking kidding me!
Everyday this country defiantly pisses on satireâs corpse
He's on the team. Productivity does not determine whether you are part of the group. I love you Larry.
Finding out details about David Brouillette, the ICE agent who murdered Joan Sebastian Guerrero in Maine, has convinced me that ICE is purposely hiring extremely violent and mentally unstable people who should not have access to guns so that when they inevitably kill someone in cold blood with no provocation, they can blame the individual officer and not the agency. Theyâve designed the system to inflict maximum trauma and harm with minimal accountability.
Call it conspiratorial thinking or just laziness on the part of whoever hired him but I cannot help but think this shit is intentional. This is not a man anyone would give a gun and power without intending it to be used for maximum harm.
Really don't need to drag mentally unstable people through the mud even more by comparing them to ice tools.
you should not give impulsively violent and unstable people guns and authority. preferably most people shouldn't have guns, and pretty much nobody should have guns and authority. ICE is doing the gun equivalent of hiring completely blind people as bus drivers. it is not ableist to assess how violent and unstable someone is when giving them a gun and authority. if such a role is needed, you need someone who is exceedingly calm and level-headed.
it's ableist to assume someone to be violent or unstable, or to treat someone as less of a person just for being so. but this isn't that.
They always start with that âBut thatâs ableist!â bullshit whenever I mention that people with with a history of violence, paranoia and erratic behavior at least partially due to mental illness probably should not have access to firearms and not be in a position of power where they are likely to express that power through acts of violence. I donât think David Brouilletteâs bipolar disorder was what made him him dangerous but I think that a man with a history of violence and a disorder that can greatly impair decision making capability should not be armed. I have major depressive disorder and I do not trust myself around firearms because I know I could become a danger to myself. This is a man who choked out his own daughter and abused multiple partners, a man who was known to be a danger to others and known to have extreme manic episodes and they gave him a gun and authority.
Honestly, I think Catra is more shocked by the short hair look tbh đ

for people who grew up with siblings: what is your birth order and when did you stop sharing a room with one or more of them?
youngest sibling; 0-8 years old
youngest sibling; 9-12 years old
youngest sibling; 13-18+ years old
middle sibling; 0-8 years old
middle sibling; 9-13 years old
middle sibling; 13-18+ years old
eldest sibling; 0-8 years old
eldest sibling; 9-13 years old
eldest sibling; 13-18+ years old
never shared a bedroom with siblings but have them
never stopped sharing
don't have any siblings button
not enough spaces to add individual options for birth order in the "never stopped sharing" or "never shared" categories, so please specify in the tags/replies if you feel comfy doing so!
also, feel free to share stories and perspectives about this in the tags too. i personally am a middle child (kid 3 out of 4) and i shared a bedroom with my sister until my 10th birthday, i think? she's about 2 years younger than me, for scale. she actually was the one who begged my parents for her own room because she couldn't handle me and my friends making bad horror movies on home video while she was in the room (valid, we were terrifying and were pretty constantly doing that so) and i believe that one of our older brothers had just moved out, so his room was empty at that time so they begrudgingly let her have it.
edited to add: just pretend that the middle and oldest sibling middle options both say 9-12 years old dkdjdkdjd oops
one of my new interests, I think, is how political outreach uses leading, strawman-ass questions to get the results they want from voters they assume already agree with them. for some reason the RNC has me on their mailing list to beg for money with fake "surveys" to get my "opinion" that are like: how much do you hate trans people, a little or a lot?
so I took a political phone survey last night and it was interesting. clearly a third party group who took questions from both republicans and centrist dems and you could tell which were which. some of the republican questions were so funny bc they LOVE to make democrats sound cooler than they are. they're like, do you support the democrat's SOCIALIST agenda to OPEN THE BORDER and give out FREE abortions with YOUR tax money? and im like hell yeah brother đ€
on the other hand there was one question that left me speechless. it was something like, do you support tr*mp's crackdown on illegal immigration which preserves affordable housing for real Americans OR do you support Biden's open borders policy that makes housing less affordable (somehow)?
I was silent for a moment and then said, "I dont think those issues are related. I dont think it matters when they're killing people, in the streets."
and i had to apologize to the survey taker for the sheer fury in my voice bc like, i know she didn't write that question. but. holy shit. do people actually think like that? do people actually think ICE executing innocent people is a benefit for them in regards to affordable housing of all things?
I'm afraid that the answer is yes, unfortunately.
OK I keep seeing people refer to the Michigan parasite outbreak and then others will chime in âitâs in my state too!â so to clarify this for everyone it is a NATIONWIDE outbreak reported in 31 US states as of today, July 12th 2026. There is no reason to assume it is not present in the rest of them
NBC Newsâ tally shows at least 26 states have reported cases of the parasitic stomach illness, as health authorities race to find the source
The CDC is tracking cases but they are significantly lagging behind the states on numbers (their data is weeks behind) so itâs probably going to be most effective to check your individual stateâs infectious disease tracking.
This is a parasite that usually causes about 3000 cases of illness per year in the USA, Michigan currently has reported about 2900 (the confusion about âMichigan outbreakâ is because Michigan is the first that caught an uptick in cases and has been very proactive about trying to trace them). Last official update from Massachusetts was 18 cases here centered in Greater Boston. The CDC recommends NOT assuming there are no sources of the parasite in your state even if no cases have been reported.
It isnât an unknown illness but it is an unusual quantity of cases, and the fact that they havenât been able to pin down the source after weeks of tracking is what makes it particularly concerning this year (harder to contain).
Wash your hands, wash your produce, cook it ideally, and advocate for farm workers to have access to safe and hygienic toilet facilities
that last part is extra important. nearly every one of these produce outbreaks are because of poor hygenic practices on the fields, and particularly, because field workers do not have adequate access to bathrooms. nobody wants to poison your food, but they often don't have a choice. they also often lack proper access to water, cooling equipment (such as sun hats and portable fans), and management; this can make it significantly harder to think clearly and make a wise decision, let alone survive the day. when this comes up in conversation, call this out. make sure everyone around you KNOWS that the reason the lettuce is constantly unsafe is because farms are not giving a shit about worker welfare, and the people growing and picking your lettuce have to walk ungodly distances in 100+ degree weather without water just to take a shit. oh, and if they DO choose to do that, they may be punished for taking an unscheduled break.
if you wanna go further, let everyone know that the majority of labor laws have an exception carved out for agricultural workers.
Republicans on Capitol Hill are starting to talk about one facet of immigration reform: how to expand the popular H-2A visa program for farm
Worth keeping up with developments in the fight over farm workersâ visas because while trying to get legal documents for workers, agricultural producers are also trying to fight for those legal documents to have fewer human rights provisions in them
